Key Points and Methods of Guinea Fowl Farming Explained
AbstractGuinea fowl need a relatively dry, warm site; before seven weeks they must be raised in an enclosed environment, and after seven weeks they can be free-ranged under trees. During the free-range stage there is no need for scheduled, measured feeding; feed is only supplemented if there is not enough food. Guinea fowl are social animals, so the free-range site needs to be divided into zones to ensure sufficient space for activity.
1. Site selection
Generally, adult guinea fowl have very good constitutions and strong resistance; they are not at all afraid of heat and are also cold-tolerant, so even in extremely cold or high-temperature environments they can live normally. However, compared with cold, damp environments, guinea fowl still prefer dry, warm environments.
2. Free-range timing for guinea fowl
Before seven weeks, guinea fowl need to be kept in a relatively enclosed environment; after they have been raised to seven weeks, they can be trained for a period and then kept in orchards or open grassland. Of course, there are also particular considerations for the scale of raising them; generally 50-500 birds form one flock.
3. Reasonable feeding and rearing
In relatively open environments such as grassland or orchards, guinea fowl have a fairly abundant food supply. So the keeper also does not need to feed them on a fixed schedule and in fixed amounts at every meal. However, the keeper needs to observe whether the food sources for the guinea fowl in the orchard are sufficient; if there is not enough food, the keeper needs to feed some feed to ensure the guinea fowl can eat their fill.
4. Stocking density and division of free-range areas
In fact, whether wild guinea fowl or domestic guinea fowl, they all have the habit of living in groups, so even for guinea fowl free-ranged in orchards, the density cannot be too low; generally, the areas where guinea fowl live are divided at a stocking density of no more than 750 birds per 1 hectare, to ensure the guinea fowl have enough space to move around.
