How long does the grass carp farming cycle generally take?
SummaryThe farming cycle of grass carp is about 3 years. In the third year, the grass carp can reach a weight of about 3kg, at which point it can be sold on the market. When farming grass carp, a location with abundant water sources and good water quality should be chosen. Grass carp are generally fed in two ways: conventional feed and medicated bait.
Grass carp is an economically important fish and circulates quickly on the market. Its farming cycle is generally about 3 years. In the first year, grass carp can grow to about 60g, in the second year it can reach about 700g, and by the third year it can reach about 3kg.
Feeding management for farming grass carp
1. Feeding
The main task in farming grass carp is feeding the pond. There are generally 2 feeding methods: conventional feed feeding and medicated bait feeding. Feeding is mainly done by manual feeding at fixed points, and the feeding work should be done well in terms of quality, quantity, timing and fixed locations.
For conventional feed, from March to May, feed about 4 times per day; from June to August, feed about 3 times per day; from mid-August to October, feed about 4 times per day. Starting from June each year, green feed should be fed once a day, and the amount should not be too large. Strictly avoid overfeeding and starvation during feeding, and an appropriate amount is best.
Medicated bait feeding mainly uses sulfaguanidine made into floating feed for feeding. When feeding, evenly mix the medicated bait into the pellet feed and feed according to the body weight of the fish in the pond. On the first day, use 1g of medicine per 10kg of fish body weight in the pond. From the second day to the sixth day, halve the dosage and feed once a day. One feeding cycle is about one and a half months.
2. Water quality management methods
Disinfect regularly with quicklime at about 20kg per mu per meter of water depth, once every half month. Bleaching powder can also be used for whole-pond splashing to disinfect.
Regularly add water to or change the water in the pond. New water needs to be added once every 10 days, with the new water injected to a depth of about 30cm. In mid-July, change the water in the farming pond once according to actual conditions.
June to August each year is the hot weather season. During this season, grass carp are prone to oxygen deficiency, so the aerator needs to be turned on every day. Patrol the pond every day and promptly grasp the fish activity and feeding conditions. Also pay close attention to the water quality of the pond water. Debris in the pond should be cleaned up regularly, and leftover feed and leaves from the grass carp should be promptly removed, so that problems can be handled and prevented in time and unnecessary losses reduced.
