A Detailed Guide to Crucian Carp Farming Methods and Technical Key Points
AbstractFirst of all, do a good job in selecting the pond site. The pond should be chosen in a place with sufficient water source, no pollution and convenient transportation. The farming pond generally needs to ensure a pond depth of 2 m. The pond should be disinfected with lime. A 50 cm high net wall should be built around the pond. When buying fry, choose those with consistent body length, no wounds on the body and good swimming and feeding ability. When all of this is done, manage them with scientific methods until they are sold on the market.
I. Pond Site Selection
The farming pond should be chosen in a place with good air quality, no pollution, sufficient water source, convenient transportation and convenient drainage and irrigation. If these conditions are met, it can be used as a site for farming crucian carp. Fish are prone to oxygen deprivation in hot weather, so it is necessary to prepare oxygen exchange machinery, water pumps, special fishing nets, etc., so as to lay the groundwork for building the pond in the future.
II. Pond Construction
After the farming site is selected, the pond needs to be dug with machinery into a pit 2 m deep, disinfected inside with lime, dried in the sun for about 2 days, and then filled with water using a water pump. When filling with water, wrap the water pump with gauze. This can prevent debris from clogging the water pump and also filter debris flowing in during water filling. After the pond is filled with water, observe the pond water for about 7 days. If the water level drops noticeably, it proves that the pond is leaking. If the water level does not drop, it proves that the pond does not leak. In the case of no leakage, sprinkle bleaching powder into the pond to adjust the water quality.
III. Construction Around the Pond
After the pond is fully built and arranged, the surroundings of the pond also need to be checked. A dike needs to be built around the pond, and a net wall of about 50 cm should be built with gauze to prevent poultry from harming the crucian carp. If rat holes are found in the dike, repair them promptly with cement. Never use rat poison. If dead rats fall into the farming pond, they will harm the crucian carp. When all the preparatory work is done, it is time to consider stocking fry.
IV. Purchase of Fry
Fry must be purchased from a regular large-scale farm. The fry need to be selected for consistent body length, no wounds on the body, no fallen scales, no diseased spots on the fins, and especially strong swimming and feeding ability in the water. The number of fry purchased should be reasonably configured according to the size of the farming pond. Generally, about 20 adult crucian carp can be farmed per sq m. The fry purchase can be configured according to this ratio. After selecting the fry, transport them as soon as possible to minimize losses.
V. Fry Transport Management
After the fry are purchased, transport them in net cages. Transport must ensure a smooth journey, reduce collisions, and ensure the oxygen supply. This can improve the survival rate of the fry. After transport is completed, first carry out adaptive rearing of the fry to lay the groundwork for later release into the farming pond.
VI. Temporary Holding of Fry
After the fry are transported back, first hold them temporarily in net cages. A small number of fry can be placed in a net cage filled with pond water for temporary holding and fed aquatic larvae. If the fry can live safely in the pond water, they can be stocked in large quantities. The stocking time is generally controlled at about 5 days.
VII. Domestication of Fry
After the crucian carp stocking work is completed, they need to be domesticated. In the early stage of domestication, feed them in every corner of the pond. When the crucian carp have adapted to the feed, gradually reduce the feeding range. This will be very helpful for the future feeding and management of the crucian carp.
VIII. Daily Management
Regularly check the isolation nets around the farming pond and repair any damage promptly. The pond water quality must be kept good, with transparency controlled at 40 cm, and the water changed once every 10 days, with a water change depth of about 30 cm. When crucian carp are found swimming on the water surface, opening their mouths and blowing bubbles, it proves that oxygen in the pond is insufficient, and oxygen must be added to the pond promptly. When crucian carp grow to about 2 jin, they can be caught and sold on the market.
