AbstractChoose a place with sufficient water source, clear water quality and convenient drainage and irrigation to build a pond, with an area controlled at 10-30 mu, and a water depth of more than 2m in the pond. Before stocking fry, disinfect the pond with a certain proportion of quicklime, and select healthy, disease-free, large-sized high-quality fry for stocking. Feed strictly follows the "four fixed" principles. In addition to ensuring sufficient natural bait in the water, artificial concentrated feed and green feed also need to be provided, and daily supervision and disease prevention work should be done well.

1. Pond Construction

The pond for farming silver carp requires sufficient water source and convenient water intake and drainage. Generally, the area should be controlled at about 10-30 mu. If the pond area is larger than 30 mu, for the convenience of daily management, it needs to be divided into numerous small sections with nets. The water depth in the pond should be controlled at more than 2m to ensure that the silver carp can safely pass through the very hot summer.

Before stocking fry, first drain the water in the pond and expose it to the sun for a period of time. Half a month before stocking, pour an appropriate amount of water into the pond, and splash quicklime water into the pond at a ratio of 150kg/mu for disinfection. Also clean up the weeds around the pond to prevent insects from laying eggs in the pond and damaging the water environment.

2. Cultivation of Live Bait

After disinfecting the fish pond, 10 days before stocking fry, apply base fertilizer into the pond to fertilize the water quality. The amount of base fertilizer applied should be about 300-400kg/mu. After that, every 2-3 days, splash manure water into the pond at a ratio of 30-40kg/mu to promote the large-scale reproduction and development of plankton in the water, cultivating sufficient live bait for silver carp.

3. Stocking Fry

It is best to stock fingerlings in mid-to-late May when the water temperature can stabilize above 18°C. Select high-quality fingerlings of uniform size and free from injuries and diseases. Before stocking, soak the fingerlings in 3% salt water for about 5 minutes for disinfection to reduce the chance of disease and improve the survival rate of the fish school. The fingerling size is best chosen at 100-200g/fish, and the specific stocking density needs to be adjusted according to whether the water quality is fertile or lean.

4. Feed Feeding

During the farming process, to promote rapid growth of silver carp, reasonable feed feeding is crucial. Feed feeding must adhere to the four fixed principles. Silver carp have the habit of eating at night, so feed should also be given once at night. Feed should be given in an appropriate amount. Overfeeding will cause unnecessary waste and will also pollute the water quality, thereby affecting growth; while insufficient feed feeding cannot meet the growth needs of silver carp and will slow down their growth rate.

When fry are first stocked into the pond, they are not yet very adapted to the environment and feed. To improve the survival rate of the fingerlings and promote their growth rate, some soybean milk or soybean cake slurry can be fed to them. After the fingerlings adapt, feeding can be stopped. Fry initially mainly feed on plankton in the water and will also eat some feed fragments. To ensure there is sufficient natural bait in the water for the fry to eat, the pond should be fertilized regularly to promote the large-scale growth and reproduction of plankton in the water.

As silver carp continue to grow, in addition to feeding on plankton, they also need to be fed some organic feed fragments to accelerate the growth rate of silver carp, enhance the physique of the fish school, and promote gonadal development. In autumn and after silver carp production, appropriately feeding concentrated feed such as bran and wheat bran can increase the yield of silver carp, thereby increasing economic returns.

5. Daily Management

Persist in patrolling the pond every day, observe the color of the pond water and the feeding and activity of the silver carp, and keep daily records. If abnormalities are found, handle them promptly. Promptly clean up weeds around the pond, debris in the pond, dead fish, and so on.

To prevent the fish school from getting sick, the feeding platform for putting feed should be cleaned and disinfected frequently, and a certain proportion of quicklime should also be splashed into the pond regularly for disinfection. To clearly grasp the growth situation of silver carp, regularly pull nets in the pond for inspection, observe the fertility of the water quality and the condition of the silver carp, so as to properly adjust feed feeding and base fertilizer application. However, when pulling nets, care should be taken to avoid harming the fish school.
