AbstractWhen crucian carp is cultured alone in a pond, generally about 1,500 fingerlings around 6 cm in body length can be stocked per mu; if polycultured with other fish, the stocking number is about 600 per mu. At present, farmers mainly use several types such as allogynogenetic silver crucian carp, Pengze crucian carp, and Xiangyun crucian carp, among which Pengze crucian carp is exported the most.

For crucian carp, depending on the farming method and the pond environment, the stocking density will also vary.

1. Monoculture mode

1. Pond conditions: If only crucian carp is raised in the pond, the area is generally required to be at least 3 mu and at most about 10 mu, the water depth should be kept at about 3 m, and the pond bottom should have about 15 cm of silt.

2. Stocking of fingerlings: Before stocking fingerlings, the cleared pond must first be disinfected with lime, and water should be added to the pond after about 3 days. When adding water, a mesh screen should be used at the water inlet to filter it and prevent wild fish from entering the pond. About 1,500 crucian carp around 6 cm in body length are stocked per mu for overwintering, and about 40% overwintering fingerlings of grass carp, silver carp, and bighead carp can be added. The earlier the stocking time, the better.

2. Polyculture mode

The farming area for crucian carp is about 3-10 mu, the water depth is 3 m, and the pond bottom has 15 cm of silt. These are the best farming conditions. In a crucian carp pond, multiple species such as black carp, grass carp, silver carp, and bighead carp can be polycultured. Crucian carp should be stocked at large size, with about 600 fish per mu, while the size and number of other fish stocked are determined according to farming needs.

Variety selection

Farmers mainly raise several types of crucian carp such as allogynogenetic silver crucian carp, Pengze crucian carp, and Xiangyun crucian carp, among which Xiangyun crucian carp has the fastest growth rate. Because Pengze crucian carp looks better than the others, Pengze crucian carp is mainly used for crucian carp export.
