In shrimp fields, large amounts of moss can appear if you are not careful, causing great trouble for farmers. Many farmers ask whether salt can be used to kill the moss. In fact, using salt to kill moss does not have much effect, so how can the moss in shrimp fields be effectively removed? Below are 6 methods for removing moss from shrimp fields, hoping to provide help to everyone.

1. Salvaging the moss

Generally, common moss includes types that sink to the bottom, attach to aquatic plants, float on the water surface, form clumps, and form blocks. The hardest to deal with is the moss scattered sporadically in the water. Sheet-like moss and clump-like moss are relatively easier to salvage, while the hardest to salvage is slippery moss. When salvaging slippery moss, prepare tools with finer mesh, and when scooping from the bottom of the pond upward, move as slowly as possible. If aquatic plants have already covered the moss, they must be salvaged and treated; even if a small amount of aquatic plants is scooped out together, they cannot be spared.

2. Sun-drying the field

This method is suitable for ponds with no shrimp fry and adult shrimp. Throughout winter or early spring, when there are few sunny days, little rain, and the climate is relatively dry, sun-drying the field to kill moss is the simplest, most applicable, and most economical. Whether it is an old pond or a new pond, the pond water needs to be drained completely. If the pond has relatively deep silt, drainage ditches should be dug. Be sure to note that once standing water is found, it must be drained promptly. After the pond bottom is exposed to the sun and treated by freezing soil, most of the moss can be eliminated. When drying the bottom, if clumps of moss are found, be sure to dry one side and then turn it over to dry the other side. After the moss is dried, drag it away or burn it.

3. Deepening the water level

This is suitable for ponds with relatively many adult shrimp and already present small young shrimp. In early spring or winter, the water level can be deepened to help block light and eliminate moss. After the water level is deepened to more than 1 m, the water transparency will no longer reach more than 70 cm, and the bottom layer will have no light. Therefore, moss growing on the bottom layer cannot carry out photosynthesis. Over time, the bottom-layer moss and the moss in the deep water layer that cannot carry out photosynthesis will be unable to survive, thereby killing the moss.

4. Spraying chemicals

Qingtai Jing can be used to kill moss. This chemical is a biological enzyme preparation. It will not harm fish, shrimp, or crabs, will not harm grass, algae, or seedlings, has no side effects, and can directly and effectively kill various types of moss.

Whole-pond moss: If the whole pond is covered with moss, first manually catch part of the moss to form a loop-shaped ditch in the pond, which can increase the living space for crayfish, and then kill the moss.

Surface moss: If there is moss on the upper surface of the pond, Qingtai Jing can be sprayed directly. After about 3 days, the moss will turn yellow. At this time, begin fertilizing, together with already fermented Juneng EM bacteria. When the moss is about to die out, then detoxify and improve the bottom.

Treatment of bottom moss: Mix 1 bag of Qingtai Jing with about 2 kg of water, spray it onto dry sand soil, phosphate fertilizer, and large-package biological bottom material, then mix evenly, cover with a plastic bag, and after about 2 hours, use it after being sealed and dried. Broadcast it onto the bottom moss. Wherever there is moss, it can be spread; where there is none, there is no need to spread it. Calculate the usage amount according to the specific pond area. After about 2 days, the moss will turn yellow and wither. At this time, begin fertilizing, together with already fermented Juneng EM bacteria. When the moss is about to die out, then detoxify and improve the bottom.

5. Fertilizing

In winter, choosing the right fertilizer variety is very important. First use an appropriate amount of fermented organic fertilizer as base fertilizer, then use high-quality amino acid fertilizers together with organic biological fertilizer, dissolve them in water, and spray the whole pond. Use about once every half month. This can control transparency at around 50 cm, not only providing high-quality natural bait for crayfish, but also killing the moss. This method is more effective only when the water depth reaches more than 70 cm.

6. Regulating water quality

After the above series of measures, the water quality will change greatly, becoming turbid or black, etc. When the water is turbid, high-content sodium humate products can be applied together with chemical flocculants for treatment. In other situations, use organic acid products and sodium thiosulfate products for detoxification. If the water temperature is higher than 15°C, Juneng Bacillus original seed and Juneng lactic acid bacteria original seed can be used to solve other subsequent problems.
