What conditions are required for puffer fish farming?
SummaryPond: A pond with sufficient water source, no water pollution and little variation in water temperature should be chosen for raising puffer fish. Stocking of fingerlings: Choose puffer fish fingerlings that are robust, free of disease and similar in size; the fingerlings must be disinfected before stocking. Domestication and feeding: First use fresh meat as the starter feed, and add artificial feed once they gradually adapt. Water quality control: Water quality requirements are strict; a large water change is needed every month, and oxygen must be added to the pond in time.
I. Selection of the pond
1. For a pond used to farm puffer fish, first choose a place with sufficient water source, no water pollution and little variation in water temperature.
2. If brackish or freshwater farming is chosen, build the pond in a place where water can be pumped easily and the route is not far.
3. The pond bottom may have leakage or seepage, and the pond should be far from noisy places and kept quiet. For example, choose a place far from urban areas and factories.
4. But transportation and communication must also be convenient, and the pond must be able to effectively withstand the impact of storms or heavy rain.
II. Selection and stocking of fingerlings
1. When farming puffer fish, in order to ensure the quality of the fingerlings, authentic puffer fish fingerlings should be chosen, and varieties that are robust, free of disease, similar in size and strong in upstream-swimming ability should be selected as the main farming object.
2. After purchasing the fingerlings, during transport of the puffer fish fingerlings they should be placed in plastic bags and transported with oxygen added.
3. Usually, fingerlings about 4 cm long can be packed about 120 per bag, and can be transported for up to 8 hours, with a survival rate of at least 90%.
4. Before stocking, the fingerlings should be disinfected, and as the fish grow, begin to catch the large ones and keep the small ones, carrying out thinning culture.
III. Domestication and feeding
1. During the farming of puffer fish, the puffer fish should be properly domesticated; after domestication, some minced fish meat and shrimp, snail meat and other fresh meat can be fed as the starter feed for the puffer fish.
2. Then carry out acclimation so that the puffer fish can gradually adapt to the farming environment and bait; after they gradually adapt, mix artificial feed into the bait and gradually increase the amount, until finally they eat artificial feed completely.
3. The bait is mainly eel feed; when feeding, the feeding should be fixed in location, time, amount and quality. Generally, feed twice a day.
IV. Water quality control
1. The growth of puffer fish has great requirements for water quality; it likes clear, clean water. Therefore, according to the color of the pond water, water quality, transparency, growth rate of the puffer fish, feeding situation, etc., new water should be added to the pond at irregular intervals.
2. The puffer fish pond needs a large water change once a month to improve water quality.
3. The lowest growth temperature for puffer fish must not be below 9°C, and the highest must not be above 32°C, so the water temperature changes in the pond must always be monitored, and care must be taken to raise or lower the temperature in time.
4. Also observe changes in the dissolved oxygen content of the pond, and inject oxygen into the pond in time when oxygen is insufficient.
