How to feed weaned piglets so they grow fast
AbstractBefore weaned piglets are moved into the nursery barn, the temperature should be maintained at around 26°C, then they should be grouped according to health, size, and sex, an appropriate amount of antibiotics and electrolytic multivitamins should be added to the drinking water, the nursery barn should be ventilated, and manure should be cleaned up promptly. During rearing, fresh feed should be provided; if weak piglets are found, they should be cared for and fed separately, a full disinfection should be carried out once every 7 days, and the amount of feed given should be reduced within 3 days after weaning.
I. How to feed weaned piglets so they grow fast
1. Before putting weaned piglets into the nursery barn, the temperature should be controlled at around 26°C.
2. When putting them in, the grouping of weaned piglets should be reasonable; the grouping work can be done according to health, size, and sex.
3. A small amount of antibiotics and electrolytic multivitamins should be added to the drinking water, which can improve the piglets' resistance and reduce stress reactions.
4. The nursery barn should be ventilated promptly, and manure should be cleaned up regularly, thereby reducing the smell of manure.
5. The feed provided must be guaranteed to be fresh; never feed moldy feed.
6. If weak piglets are found, they need to be cared for and fed separately.
7. During the rearing process, carry out a full disinfection once every 7 days, which helps reduce respiratory infections in piglets.
8. Within 3 days after weaning, the amount of feed given needs to be reduced to avoid indigestion in piglets; on the 1st day feed them to 6 parts full, on the 2nd day to 7 parts full, and on the 3rd day to 9 parts full, after which the piglets can be allowed to eat freely.
II. Precautions for feeding weaned piglets
1. Stable environment
When piglets are weaned, the piglets and the sow need to be separated; when feeding them separately, the sow should be kept in a different environment for rearing, so that the piglets are weaned in a familiar environment, and after weaning the feed, feeding times, and rearing personnel must not be changed, to avoid poor appetite and poor spirits in the piglets; after the piglets' condition gradually stabilizes, the feed, rearing methods, and so on can begin to be adjusted.
2. Weather changes
If low-temperature and high-humidity weather occurs, it will have an adverse effect on the growth of piglets, and stress reactions may occur; moreover, this kind of climate is also favorable for pathogens to occur frequently, and because the piglets' resistance is not yet very strong, it will cause the piglets to develop other diseases; therefore, during the rearing period, if this kind of weather occurs, the pig pen needs to be sealed, the piglets should be cared for promptly, and good insulation measures should be taken.
3. Cold protection and insulation
Piglets have a relatively weak constitution, and they are very unsuited to low-temperature environments. If weaning work is carried out in a low-temperature environment, it may cause cold stress reactions in the piglets; therefore, when weaning in a low-temperature environment, good cold protection and insulation measures need to be taken for the piglets, and according to changes in temperature, the temperature control should be appropriately adjusted, to avoid drafts leaking in through openings in the pig pen; during the rearing process, the pig pen environment should also always be kept dry.
