Air-raid shelter breeding: that is, breeding in a basement; at night, lights need to be turned on to prevent escape and promote growth. Mulberry field breeding method: dig trenches along the mulberry tree rows and apply organic fertilizer for breeding. Forage field breeding: dig irrigation and drainage ditches in the forage field; organic feed can be applied in the ditches, then earthworms are released and covered with soil. Vegetable garden breeding method: after the vegetable seedlings emerge, earthworms can be released.

1. Orchard breeding method

1. Earthworms can be bred in the open space under fruit trees, which not only makes full use of the land but also promotes fruit production.

2. For example, for green earthworms, the breeding method is similar to the mulberry field breeding method. If breeding red earthworms, decomposed cow, pig, and horse manure can be piled under the fruit trees along the tree rows to a width of 1.5-2 m and a height of 0.4 m, which is the earthworm breeding bed.

3. A walkway needs to be left in the middle of each breeding bed, and a drainage ditch can be dug every 2 breeding beds. The feed surface of the breeding bed can be covered with rice straw or wheat straw to keep the humidity at 60-70%. On rainy days, plastic film can be used for covering to prevent soaking by rainwater.

2. Air-raid shelter breeding

1. Urban air-raid shelters are actually basements, and they are also relatively suitable for breeding red earthworms. The surrounding humidity is relatively high, warm in winter and cool in summer, and the breeding method is the same as box breeding and pit-pond breeding.

2. Lights can be turned on at night, which not only prevents escape, but also provides a certain light source that is more conducive to earthworm growth.

3. Mulberry field breeding method

1. A mulberry field with relatively flat terrain and good irrigation and drainage conditions should be selected. Trenches with a width of 40 cm and a depth of 20-25 cm can be dug along the mulberry tree rows, and initially decomposed organic fertilizer can be applied, such as pig and sheep manure, dead leaves, rotten grass, horse and cow manure, straw, weeds, etc.

2. About 5000-7500 kg of organic material is applied per mu, then 10-15 cm of soil is covered on top, and earthworms can be released for breeding. The release quantity can be determined according to the earthworms and their individual size.

3. Green manure or green feed can be planted between the rows, and a drainage ditch can be dug about every 5 rows. The water content needs to be kept at about 30%.

4. Forage field breeding

1. Breeding can be carried out in fields planted with comfrey, broad beans, and other perennial green feed. When breeding, a level forage field can be selected, and an irrigation and drainage ditch can be dug about every 10 rows.

2. Between the comfrey rows, trenches with a width and depth of 15-20 cm each can be dug. Organic feed can be applied in the trenches, then about 10 cm of soil can be covered on top, and green earthworms can be released for breeding.

3. Note that irrigation or drainage must be carried out frequently to keep the soil water content at about 30%.

5. Vegetable garden breeding method

1. A vegetable garden has sufficient water and fertilizer conditions and relatively meticulous management, which is more helpful for the growth and reproduction of earthworms.

2. In a vegetable garden where earthworms are bred, about 7500-10000 kg of high-quality organic fertilizer and decomposed rotten vegetables, garbage, etc. can be applied per mu.

3. After the vegetable seedlings emerge, earthworms can be released for breeding. When breeding in a vegetable garden, the application of chemical nitrogen fertilizer and certain pesticides should be reduced as much as possible.

4. When they grow up, harvesting can be carried out in stages in combination with vegetable management.
