What conditions are needed for eel farming? A must-read for beginners
Summary Farming site: For eel farming, choose an area with convenient transportation, no pollution, sufficient water source and convenient electricity to build the pond, with an area of about 50 mu, and equip it with the various systems and equipment. Water quality requirements: the suitable water temperature for growth is 25-28°C, the water is slightly acidic and rich in oxygen. Bait requirements: eels are carnivorous fish, so they should be fed small fish, earthworms, small insects, processed bait and so on.
1. Farming site
Before farming eels, you should choose a suitable farming site. It should be chosen in a place with sufficient water source, no pollution, convenient transportation and convenient electricity, with a size of at least about 50 mu, and then plan the eel pond well. In addition, the farm also needs to be equipped with a drainage system, water injection system, aerators, heating and cooling systems and other equipment.
2. Water quality requirements
1. During the process of farming eels, water temperature and water quality must be strictly controlled. Generally, eels are suitable for growing in a water temperature environment of 25-28°C, with the lowest temperature not lower than 15°C and the highest not higher than 30°C.
2. Eels grow in slightly acidic water, which is more conducive to promoting rapid growth of eels. Eels need sufficient oxygen during growth, and the oxygen content in the water body is preferably 12 mg per liter. The water body should contain a certain proportion of iron, calcium, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, nitrate and other elements. Too much or too little of these elements will affect the normal growth of eels.
3. Bait requirements
1. When farming eels, there are certain requirements for bait, because eels are a kind of carnivorous fish.
2. Generally, eel farming can feed small insects, small fish, earthworms and other feed. In addition, processed bait can also be fed, which actually means processing animal feed into granules or powder. Fresh fish from artificial farming can also be minced and then fed.
4. Eel farming models
1. Open-air still-water farming
The most commonly used method for farming eels is open-air still-water farming, mainly because the farming cost is relatively low. First, an open-air farming pond should be built in an area with sufficient water source. In daily management, water quality management needs to be strengthened. In order to meet the growth conditions of eels, the water needs to be changed every day, and the oxygen content in the water body also needs to be supplemented manually.
2. Soil pond farming
Soil pond farming is the most traditional farming model. It is actually pond farming. The only difference is that the bottom of the pond does not need to be built with cement, it is just soil. First, a soil pond should be built in an area with sufficient water source and sunny conditions, then equipped with an irrigation and drainage system, and surrounded with wire mesh to take anti-escape measures.
3. Warm flowing water farming
A relatively advanced farming model now is warm flowing water farming. During farming, the most important things are water supply and water control. During farming, the water temperature should be controlled at about 27°C, and the water should be kept flowing continuously to form a kind of gravity-fed living water.
