At what size is it most suitable to breed a crossbred (binary) sow?
AbstractCrossbred sows need to be bred at 9-10 months of age. When breeding, observe the sow's body condition; the weight must be greater than 200 jin before breeding can be carried out. If the breeding age is approaching but the weight is not up to standard, you can feed some nutritious feed to help it gain weight and reach the breeding standard.
1. At what age to breed crossbred sows
Compared with the sexual maturity rate of local pigs raised in the area, crossbred sows reach sexual maturity relatively late. Generally, only at 8 months of age, when the weight reaches 210 jin, will there be signs of estrus. Therefore, crossbred sows are best bred when they grow to 9-10 months of age, and the sow's body condition must be strictly observed. Those weighing less than 200 jin cannot be bred; during this period, nutritious feed can be fed to bring them to the standard breeding weight.
2. Methods for raising crossbred sows well
1. In the early stage, raise them as ordinary three-cross pigs and allow them to eat freely. At around 180 jin, switch them to replacement gilts, and be sure to feed replacement gilt feed until estrus.
2. If both the days of age and the weight meet the breeding standard, they can be bred at the first estrus. Artificial insemination can be carried out, breeding 2-3 times. If conditions permit, check the sperm deformity rate and viability.
3. If the sow still does not come into estrus at 8 months of age, inject pregnant mare serum to induce estrus. After estrus, inject Ovulation-promoting No. 3 before breeding.
4. After breeding, feed pregnant sow feed, then control the daily feed amount to within 4 jin. During this period, green feed can also be added until the sow is successfully bred.
5. Pregnant sows can start being fed lactating sow feed after 3 months until giving birth. Before giving birth, whether to reduce the feed can be decided based on body condition.
6. Inject cloprostenol in the early morning at 112-113 days of gestation.
7. During the birthing process, it is not advisable to use oxytocin. After birthing is finished, inject 1 dose of cloprostenol. Sows will eat after birthing is finished; during this period, anti-inflammatory injections are not necessary, but human-use amoxicillin can be added to the feed and fed continuously for 4-5 days.
8. Let the sow eat as much lactating feed as possible. During this period, immunise reasonably according to its own condition. At birth, inject pseudorabies nasal drops; at around 10 days of age, inject circovirus plus mycoplasma; the several mentioned above are Boehringer, priced at about 40 yuan; after weaning, inject swine fever single vaccine; at 60 days, inject triple vaccine; in winter, inject swine foot-and-mouth disease vaccine.
9. Notes on second-litter syndrome: wean at 20 days of age, and during this period it must not exceed 25 days of age. After weaning, do not feed lactating sow feed again; instead feed pregnancy feed. If these tasks are done well, 80% will come into estrus on schedule; those that do not come into estrus can be injected with pregnant mare serum.
10. Therefore, when raising them, first select high-quality crossbred sows, so that the quality of the sows can be guaranteed from the source. High-quality sows not only have good constitutions themselves, but also help increase the quantity and quality of the piglets produced.
