Detailed Introduction to the Jimai 23 Wheat Variety
Jimai 23 is a new high-yield, high-quality wheat variety jointly bred by the Crop Research Institute of the Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Institute of Crop Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Let's take a look at the introduction to the Jimai 23 variety.
Jimai 23 is a new high-yield, medium-strong gluten wheat variety developed by crossing and backcrossing Jimai 22 as the recipient and recurrent parent and Yumai 34 as the donor of high-quality genes, and using molecular marker-assisted technology to track target genes such as Dx5 and By8 in the hybrid progeny. Compared with Jimai 22, Jimai 23 not only has significantly improved quality and a growth period shortened by 1-2 days, but also has high yield. In the regional trials of two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015, uniform sampling was tested by the Grain Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture (Tai'an): the average grain protein content was 14.4%, the wet gluten was about 34.7%, the stability time was 6.7 min, and the flour whiteness was 72.7. In the Shandong Province high-fertilizer group regional trial from 2013 to 2015, the two-year average yield per mu was 608.7 kg, an increase of 4.8% over the control Jimai 22; in the 2015-2016 high-fertilizer group production trial, the average yield per mu was 617.7 kg, an increase of 3.4% over the control Jimai 22. In 2016, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology organized experts to conduct a field harvest acceptance test on the Jimai 23 high-yield demonstration field in Fujia Village, Zhangxing Town, Zhaoyuan City, Shandong. The actual harvested area was 3.1 mu, with an average yield per mu of 795.83 kg.
Compared with conventional selection methods, molecular marker-assisted selection technology has the advantages of clear selection targets and high selection efficiency, and this technology has been increasingly widely used in the genetic improvement of wheat traits such as quality and disease resistance. In the breeding process of Jimai 23, the use of molecular marker detection technology significantly improved the target quality traits, while limited backcrossing maintained the non-target traits of Jimai 22 such as high yield and wide adaptability, better achieving precise breeding.
