How to Grow and Care for Dwarf Gardenia
Dwarf gardenia is a common variety of gardenia. The fragrance of dwarf gardenia is especially intense, its leaves stay evergreen all year round, and its flowers usually come in three colors - yellow, orange and white - which is very unusual. That is why quite a few plant lovers grow dwarf gardenia at home, so what are the methods and precautions for growing dwarf gardenia?
1. Pot and soil selection
Dwarf gardenia is often grown as a bonsai for viewing, so among the methods and precautions for growing dwarf gardenia, the pot and soil are a particularly key step. The soil suitable for dwarf gardenia is the same as what most plants require - loose, breathable, slightly acidic soil - so we generally choose leaf mold or peat soil to grow it.
2. Temperature
Dwarf gardenia is a plant that loves sunlight, and growing it in a sunny spot is more favorable for its growth. It is best to keep the temperature between 15°C and 25°C. Gardenia is not cold-tolerant, so as soon as autumn and winter come, you need to take good measures to keep it warm and help it withstand the cold. Outdoor plants can have a greenhouse built for them, while indoor ones just need to be moved to a warm place.
3. Humidity
Dwarf gardenia has a growth habit that demands a lot of water. You must make sure to water it two to three times a week, and also spray its branches and leaves in the morning and evening. Do not water too much at one time, because its roots are fleshy roots, and too much water will affect its breathing, affect its absorption of nutrients, and cause root rot. Just make sure the amount of water each time does not leave standing water in the pot.
4. Fertilizing
The key to promoting the growth of flower buds and blooming in dwarf gardenia is fertilizing. This is especially true during the period from April to June each year, which is the key time for dwarf gardenia to grow flower buds and bloom, so at this time we must not stop fertilizing. During its growing season, it is best to apply a diluted thin cake fertilizer once every half month.
