Detailed Explanation of the Key Points of Celery Planting and Management Techniques
Celery is a variety introduced from abroad, has been widely cultivated and is deeply loved by the people, and has the same nutritional value as ordinary celery. Below, the editor will introduce the planting and management techniques of celery.
1. Seed soaking and germination promotion
When celery is sown in the high-temperature season, the seeds should first undergo low-temperature germination treatment. Soak in clean water for 12-16 hours, then after washing, wrap in a moist gauze or towel to keep moist = promote germination; when most of the seeds have sprouted white, they can be taken out and sown.
2. Sowing
Choose a field with convenient irrigation and drainage and loose, fertile soil as the seedbed, and prepare nutrient soil before sowing. In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, summers are hot with frequent heavy rain, so it is best to raise seedlings in a rainproof and shade shed, that is, cover a layer of black shading net over a greenhouse already covered with a top film, so that it can both provide shade and prevent rain.
3. Field planting
When the seedlings grow to 5-7 true leaves, they are ready for field planting. From seedling separation to field planting takes about 30 days. About 7 days before field planting, begin controlling fertilizer and water, hardening the seedlings and strengthening the roots, and improving the stress resistance of the seedlings. On the day before field planting, water the seedbed thoroughly, and plant as the seedlings are lifted. When planting, select strong, disease-free seedlings of uniform size, and discard weak and diseased seedlings. The row spacing for field planting is 30-40 cm, and the plant spacing is 20-30 cm, with single-plant planting, planting 4500-8000 plants per 667 sq m; spring cultivation has a short growth period, and to increase yield, double-plant planting may also be used.
3. Water and fertilizer management
Celery likes fertilizer and is tolerant of fertilizer, and has relatively high requirements for fertilizer and water conditions. It requires sufficient base fertilizer, and the amount of base fertilizer should account for about 80% of the total fertilization amount. Generally, apply 4000-6000 kg of decomposed barnyard manure, 30-50 kg of superphosphate, and 25 kg of special compound fertilizer for leafy vegetables containing manganese and boron per sq m. The field planting land should be plowed and sunned, and after fertilization, plowed and harrowed to make beds. The growth period of celery lasts as long as 4 months. It grows slowly in the first 2 months and rapidly in the last 2 months. In the early stage, mainly apply quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer, once every 7-10 days depending on the plant growth; in the middle and late stages, in addition to applying nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should also be increased. In addition, attention should be paid to the supply of calcium and boron elements, generally applying 500-700 g of borax per 667 sq m.
4. Harvesting
For autumn open-field cultivation, harvesting should be done before frost; for spring cultivation, harvesting must be completed before bolting; for greenhouse cultivation, it is suitable to harvest when the heart leaves have fully developed and the outermost leaves just begin to show signs of aging. After harvesting, remove the old leaves. The net weight of a single celery plant is generally 0.5-1 kg, and the yield per 667 sq m is 3000-5000 kg.
