Everyone should have eaten loquat, and nowadays many farmers sell it themselves. This kind is generally home-grown and a bit cheaper than in fruit shops. So, are you familiar with loquat seedling planting techniques? Let's take a look!

1. Loquat seedling planting techniques

Loquat seedlings can be planted on mountain land, plains and tidal flats, and sandy soil is more suitable for drainage; they can grow and fruit normally in areas with a pH value of 4.5-8.5. Loquat is not strict about light and is a light-loving, shade-tolerant tree species. It has few pests and diseases, and the amount and frequency of pesticide use are far less than for fruit trees such as citrus; just check the orchard often.

2. How to fertilize loquat seedlings

1. Nitrogen is one of the elements loquat needs in the largest amounts for growth. Applying more nitrogen fertilizer can strengthen the tree vigor, delay the flowering period, and also has a certain effect on preventing freezing damage. When nitrogen is sufficient, the tree is vigorous, with thick branches and large leaves, a moderate amount of flowers, and large fruit with high yield. When nitrogen is excessive, the shoots grow excessively; although the fruit is large, its color and flavor are both bland, and the flesh is rather hard. When nitrogen is insufficient, growth is weak, with few and thin, short shoots, small and thin leaves, early shedding of old leaves, and small fruit with low yield. Phosphorus is present in large amounts in the reproductive organs of loquat; applying phosphorus can increase the fruit-setting rate, promote root growth, and raise the sugar content of the fruit. Loquat lacking phosphorus has poor root growth, small leaves, dark green color, and weak growth.

2. Potassium is present in large amounts in the fruit, and the potassium content in leaves and new shoots is also high. Applying more potassium fertilizer has a clear effect on promoting fruit enlargement and improving product quality. Potassium can also promote the filling out of branches and improve disease resistance. Calcium is the element with the highest content in the loquat plant; calcium can regulate the acid-base balance of the tree body, and on soil rich in calcium, loquat trees grow vigorously. When calcium is lacking, loquat buds turn brown and die. Magnesium is a component of chlorophyll; when magnesium is insufficient, the areas between the leaf veins lose green, the leaves turn yellow, and they fall early.
