Key Points of Soilless Cultivation Techniques for Celery
Celery is a common ingredient in our daily meals and is widely cultivated in our country. With the development of technology, in addition to soil cultivation, soilless cultivation techniques for celery have also become quite mature. Let's take a look below.
Introduction to Soilless Cultivation Techniques for Celery
1. Variety selection
Celery is divided into solid and hollow types. Solid varieties are more suitable for soilless cultivation, so you can choose varieties such as: Luye No. 1, Baijingqin, Liuchuan, Yi Da He j Dongqin, Jinnan Shiqin, Cornell, 619 Tianjin Ma Changzhang Qin, and others.
2. Preparation
Celery can be grown using NFT, DFT, rockwool cultivation, or other substrate cultivation methods. Using ground trench rockwool cultivation for celery not only has low cost and good results, but also suits conditions in our country and is easy to promote and apply in production. First, level the ground, compact the soil layer, and build a trench about 20cm deep, 60-100cm wide, and about 10m long. The trench should run north-south, with a slope of 1:70 and a trench spacing of 30cm. Then line it with a layer of 0.1mm thick polyethylene film and fill it with substrate such as rockwool, vermiculite, or river sand.
3. Planting
Plant celery seedlings at a spacing of 10cm between plants and rows (for western celery, the spacing is 20cm×30cm), planting one seedling per hole, with 40,000-50,000 plants planted each time. Supply nutrient solution promptly after planting; generally, no seedling revival period is needed.
4. Temperature
Generally, the suitable daytime air temperature should be kept at 18-25°C, and at night 12-15°C. The nutrient solution temperature should be 18-20°C. If the root zone temperature remains below 15°C for a long time, growth will be unfavorable. In addition, during the peak growth period, supply nutrient solution 2-3 times per day (by drip irrigation or pouring); it can be appropriately reduced in the early and late stages. If the nutrient solution is not recycled, water with clean water once every few days.
5. Disease control
During the planting process, also pay attention to the damage caused by celery early blight (leaf spot disease), which is generally more severe under cold and damp conditions. Prevention should be done in advance by selecting disease-tolerant celery varieties and strengthening fertilizer and water management; if disease occurs in the early stage, promptly remove diseased leaves and spray chemicals.
Celery cultivation is simple, and it is quite suitable for soilless cultivation. Generally speaking, once you master the techniques introduced above, there will basically be no mistakes.
