Erigeron breviscapus - when I first heard this word, I thought its flower shape would be like a lantern, but actually it is not; it is very similar to the wild chrysanthemum. Compared with the wild chrysanthemum, Erigeron breviscapus is also a traditional Chinese medicinal material. What aspects should be noted in its cultivation?

Planting methods for Erigeron breviscapus

1. Site selection and land preparation: For Erigeron breviscapus, it is advisable to choose a sunny place with flat terrain, good drainage and irrigation conditions, and convenient transportation as the planting site. The soil should be loose, fertile sandy loam rich in humus. After selecting the site, stones, dead branches and other debris should be removed in time.

2. Apply sufficient base fertilizer: When preparing the land for Erigeron breviscapus, plow about 20 cm deep, and apply 3000-3500 kg of decomposed stable manure or farmyard manure per mu as base fertilizer, then cultivate carefully and level the land to make beds.

3. Cultivation and weeding: Before the rows of Erigeron breviscapus close, weeds should be removed frequently and the soil loosened, and attention should be paid to hilling soil so that the rhizomes are not exposed above the ground. Loosen the soil shallowly to avoid damaging the roots; after the rows close, do not loosen the soil again.

4. Drainage and irrigation: After transplanting Erigeron breviscapus, the bed surface should be kept moist frequently, and care should be taken to keep the surface loose and the lower layer moist. However, during the rainy season, attention should be paid to drainage to prevent root rot.

5. Reasonable topdressing: After the transplanted Erigeron breviscapus survives, apply human excrement and urine once as topdressing, 800-1000 kg per mu, then hill up the soil. In winter, apply about 1500 kg of stable manure per mu to help it overwinter safely and grow vigorously the following year.

6. Timely flower thinning: The flowering period of Erigeron breviscapus is relatively long, so it consumes more nutrients. If it is not a field kept for seed production, thin the flowers in time to prevent nutrient consumption, so as to benefit plant growth and increase yield.

7. Harvesting and processing: Erigeron breviscapus is harvested 1-2 years after transplanting or multiple times within one year. After the plants are dug up or cut, remove the soil completely and tie them into small bundles, then dry them in a cool, ventilated, dry place in the shade, or dry them appropriately in the sun or by artificial drying. Do not wash them with water or expose them to strong sunlight.
