Silene conoidea is relatively uncommon in daily life. It is a wild vegetable that is scarce in the market but quite popular. So what are the cultivation techniques for Silene conoidea?

1. Sowing Time

The planting industry is currently developing very rapidly, and cultivation techniques are constantly being improved. If greenhouse cultivation techniques are also used, planting can basically be carried out throughout the entire year. But if sowing in open fields, it is generally from March to April each spring or from September to October in autumn. In fact, the planting time is closely related to factors such as the climate and temperature of the planting area. As for the specific planting time, it can be determined according to the rising temperature of the local soil.

2. Land Preparation

Wild vegetables generally grow vigorously and do not have very high requirements for the soil of the planting site, so Silene conoidea can grow normally in ordinary soil. However, one condition is crucial: there must be sufficient water sources near the planting site, or a plot with convenient drainage and irrigation is even better. After choosing the planting site, land preparation work should be carried out. During land preparation, deep plowing should be done, generally to a depth of 30 to 40 cm, then the soil clods should be broken up, and the soil should be cultivated as finely as possible. Finally, sufficient farmyard manure should be spread in the planting site. Water ditches should be made well in the field to facilitate later management.

3. Temperature

Temperature management after sowing is very important. Temperature directly affects whether Silene conoidea can emerge and its later growth. After sowing, the field temperature should be controlled between 15 and 20°C, and about one week before emergence, the temperature of the planting site should be controlled between 20 and 25°C. This temperature can make the seeds of Silene conoidea germinate more quickly. After 70% of the seeds in the planting site have emerged, the field conditions should be observed in a timely manner, seedlings should be replanted promptly, and finally the straw or plastic film in the field should be removed in time.

4. Management

Later-stage fertilizer and water management, weeding, and pest control work directly affect the yield and quality of Silene conoidea. Before emergence, we should water to maintain soil moisture and prevent the soil from becoming compacted, which would affect the growth of seedlings. When most of the seedlings have sprouted their tips, we need to spray foliar fertilizer to promote the growth of the sprouts and achieve the effect of uniform and strong seedlings. When Silene conoidea grows three to four true leaves, reasonable thinning should be carried out. After thinning comes the vigorous growth period of Silene conoidea. At this time, the demand for water is very high, so watering should be carried out scientifically, and it should be combined with weeding and fertilization to promote the growth of the seedlings. The most common diseases and pests of Silene conoidea are downy mildew, aphids, and cabbage caterpillars, and professional pesticides can be sprayed to achieve a therapeutic effect.

Although Silene conoidea is a wild vegetable, it can be planted artificially on a large scale, and its environmental requirements are not too high. If you are interested, you can plant it.
