Key Technical Points and Management Methods for Autumn Cabbage Cultivation
Head cabbage is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant of the Brassica genus in the cruciferous family, originating from the Mediterranean coast. It has the advantages of high yield, easy management, and strong adaptability. At present, it is widely cultivated throughout our country, mainly in autumn-winter and spring cabbage cultivation, and has become one of the important vegetables in our country. So what are the techniques for autumn cabbage cultivation?
Autumn Cabbage Cultivation Techniques
1. When cultivating cabbage in autumn, the growing period is short and the growth rate is fast. It is generally planted in mid-to-late September and can be harvested 60 days after planting. Flat-bed cultivation can be used, with covering in the later stage for delayed autumn cultivation.
2. After thinning, apply 15 kg of urea per mu in combination with watering. After the seedlings recover, control watering and promptly hoe 2 to 3 times for light root restriction for about 10 days. When head formation begins, strengthen fertilizer and water management, increase the amount of watering, and apply 10 to 15 kg of urea per mu in combination with watering to promote rapid growth. During the heading stage, because the leaf heads grow quickly and require more water, watering should be done as soon as the soil surface dries. Generally, water once every 5 to 7 days. Stop watering 7 days before harvest to prevent the leaf heads from splitting, which is also beneficial for storage and transportation.
3. From late October to early November, the weather turns cold and is no longer suitable for cabbage growth, so small arch sheds should be covered with plastic film. In the early covering stage, if the weather is good, ventilation should be carried out fully. The daytime temperature should be maintained at around 20°C, and the nighttime temperature at around 10°C. Afterwards, as the temperature drops, cover the film tightly according to the growth condition of the cabbage, and try to maintain its growth as much as possible.
