Detailed Explanation of Greenhouse Blueberry Cultivation Techniques and Management Points
Blueberry is a common fruit in daily life, with high nutritional value, and is very popular among people. Currently, it is cultivated in greenhouses in many regions, so what are the greenhouse blueberry cultivation techniques?
1. Building the greenhouse
When building a blueberry greenhouse, bamboo and wood can be used for the main structure. The size of the greenhouse is chosen according to the site area of the base; generally the length is 30-60m, and the height is around 2m. Then set up posts inside the greenhouse to support its stability. Generally, at least 3 rows of posts should be set up. The outer tilt angle of the 2 outer rows of posts should be 70° as the most suitable, and the shoulder height on both sides should be below 1.5m, with above 1m being most suitable.
2. Temperature management
During the day, the temperature inside the greenhouse should preferably be 35°C. If the temperature is higher than 35°C, ventilation should be carried out in time; if the temperature is lower than 20°C, insulation measures should be taken.
3. Humidity management
Before the budbreak stage, the humidity inside the greenhouse should preferably be around 75%, while during the flowering stage it should preferably be around 55%, during the fruit expansion stage it should preferably be around 60%, and during the harvest stage it should preferably be around 50%. Because blueberries need different humidity at different stages, a humidity controller should be installed in the greenhouse to monitor the humidity inside at all times, and humidity control should be carried out through ventilation, watering, and other methods. By controlling the humidity and temperature inside the greenhouse, the concentrations of oxygen and carbon dioxide inside can also be regulated.
4. Water requirements
Blueberry watering management is generally carried out through a combination of sprinkler irrigation and furrow irrigation. When building the greenhouse in the early stage, water storage areas such as reservoirs should be built to facilitate watering. The water demand for blueberries should generally be controlled at around 12kg/m2, so the watering frequency for blueberries is generally once every 5 days or so.
5. Fertilizer requirements
When carrying out fertilizer management for blueberries, nitrogen fertilizer needs to be applied during the budbreak stage, and potassium sulfate should be applied as a top dressing before the flowering stage. After fertilizing, certain materials such as crop straw should generally be used as mulch.
6. Pruning
During the growth period of blueberries, in order to ensure the natural growth of the branches, the main branches should be pruned. The general pruning schedule is: in the first year's winter, sort out the robust branches, select the branches as main branches, and carefully cultivate them; in the second year's autumn, prune again to ensure better branch growth.
7. Pest and disease control
Pests and diseases may also appear during the growth period. Therefore, pest and disease control should be carried out during the growth period of blueberries. Generally, borax-lime sulfur mixture is diluted and sprayed before the seedlings to control pests such as aphids. Before the flowering stage, a certain fungicide should be sprayed on blueberries to prevent diseases.
