Lotus root is a kind of aquatic product that everyone likes to eat. China was already cultivating it over three thousand years ago, and carbonized ancient lotus seeds have been found in both Liaoning and Zhejiang today, which shows how long its history is. Here we will briefly introduce high-yield lotus root cultivation.

When growing lotus root, you first need a pond that is large enough. Besides containing soil, the pond must also have enough water for it to grow normally. At the same time, it also has some requirements for the soil in the pond; only if the soil can meet its requirements can it grow normally. The soil should preferably be rich in organic matter, with a fairly neutral pH, and it should also contain some trace elements. If the water is too clear, or if it is tap water, lotus root cannot grow normally.

When planting, keep the temperature at 20°C. Especially at the time of first planting, the temperature must be well controlled. To plant at a suitable temperature, if you are planting in the north, you should choose to plant in March or April. Because temperatures in the south are generally a bit higher than in the north, when first planting you should choose to plant in April or May, a little later than in the north.

To meet the fertilizer needs of lotus root during its growth, topdressing should be done sensibly. Generally, about 5 weeks after planting, when the plants have grown several leaves, start applying the lotus root tillering fertilizer, which can promote branching and leaf growth in lotus root. When the lotus field is full of standing leaves and some lotus root plants have already produced tall leaves, the underground stems of the lotus root have then entered the root-setting stage, and the root-setting fertilizer should be applied in time.

The main disease of lotus root is lotus root rot. For prevention and control, first make sure the introduction of planting material is sound: choose healthy seed lotus roots with normal color and no damage, and spray them with 72% thiophanate-methyl at 800 times + procymidone at 800 times, then pile and cover them for 24 hours before sowing. After diseased plants are found in the field, pull them out promptly, spray the whole field with thiophanate-methyl at 600 times for disinfection, and treat the diseased plant parts with kangluning (kresoxim-methyl? no, kangluning) to prevent spread and expansion.

The above are the main key points for high-yield lotus root cultivation. When planting, take careful care of the lotus root, and as long as no natural disasters occur, lotus root will generally give a high yield.
