How to Grow Asparagus in a Greenhouse? Detailed Explanation of Key Cultivation Techniques
Asparagus that has not emerged from the soil appears white and is called white asparagus; after emerging it turns green and is called green asparagus. It contains a variety of vitamins needed by the human body and is a very good home-style dish. Today I will introduce greenhouse asparagus cultivation techniques.
1. Treating the seeds
Because the seed coat of asparagus is thick and hard, water can hardly penetrate it, so before sowing the seeds generally need to be soaked in warm water at 25-30°C for 4-5d. The germination temperature is controlled at 25-30°C. The seedling-raising methods commonly used in production include cold-frame seedling raising, small arch shed seedling raising and open-field seedling raising.
2. Building the seedbed
First, according to the geographical location, build a seedling bed of a certain length and width; after deep plowing, raking fine and leveling, apply 100kg of decomposed barnyard manure and 1.5kg of ternary compound fertilizer per 10 sq m, spread it on the ground, turn it into the bed to a depth of 15cm and mix well, level it, fill it with water, and wait until the surface turns white before opening furrows and sowing.
3. Sowing
The sowing depth is 3cm. When sowing, on the basis of ensuring soil moisture in the bed, open furrows and water a second time; after the water seeps down, sow the asparagus seeds one by one. The sowing density is: row spacing 15-20cm, plant spacing 5cm; after sowing cover with 2-3cm of soil, and the next day lightly tread and press so that the seeds are in close contact with the soil, which helps water absorption and moisture conservation. To prevent underground pests, poisoned bait can be placed in the sowing furrows.
4. Fertilizer and water management
When the seedlings emerge and reach a height of 10cm, water once. Generally, each irrigation should be about 20mm. To prevent root rot and damping-off, attention should also be paid to water quality. Fertilize at the same time as watering; generally apply 50kg of compound fertilizer per 667 sq m (1 mu), with a topdressing interval of 1 month.
Even if asparagus is produced in different regions, no matter which asparagus variety it is, as long as it is exposed to sunlight it will become green asparagus; if buried in soil or shaded from sunlight, the asparagus will tend to be whitish in color.
