How to Grow Garlic in Pots? Master the Method and Grow It Easily
Newly bought garlic usually sprouts after about a week, and then slowly grows leaves, and this sprouted garlic cannot be eaten, so many people just plant it in flower pots. So how do you grow garlic bulbs in pots?
1. Prepare the garlic tray
Before planting garlic, prepare the garlic tray, because its growing ability is very strong, so the soil choice can be somewhat flexible. However, it is best to plant it in loose, fertile soil, which is more favorable for its sprouting.
2. Handle the garlic bulbs
Use plump garlic bulbs that are not damaged on the surface, and simply separate them. The outer skin on the garlic cloves does not need to be removed; it can still sprout new shoots with the skin on.
3. Planting
(1) Potting time: Garlic is not particularly strict about environmental conditions and can usually be potted in all four seasons, but it is best to pot it in spring at noon when the temperature is between 15 and 20°C. This time period can make the garlic bulbs sprout faster and can also increase the survival rate of the garlic bulbs, while the survival rate is relatively lower when potted at other times.
(2) Potting method: Spray some water on the prepared soil, use a tool to dig a few small holes, and note that there should be a certain distance between each hole. Plant the garlic cloves into the soil with the garlic heads facing upward, and fix them with the surrounding soil. If you just plant them directly in, they can easily be washed loose by water. Note that when planting, the direction of the garlic cloves should be kept consistent, so that after the green shoots grow out, their growth direction will also be the same.
4. Management techniques after planting
After planting, place it in a spot with light, ensure the growing environment has fairly good ventilation, and try not to let the temperature get too low. Also, water it after the soil dries out, just maintaining a certain humidity, but the amount of water should not be too large, and there must be no standing water. After about a week, new shoots will sprout.
