A Detailed Guide to Growing and Pruning Pothos
Pothos is a very common household green plant, and among the many potted plants today, pothos has the highest popularity. Pothos has extremely strong vitality and requires almost no great effort to grow, so pothos is very popular with everyone. When growing pothos, what points need attention? And how should it be pruned?
Pothos is a large evergreen climbing plant belonging to the genus Epipremnum, originally growing on rocks and tree trunks in tropical rainforests. It has strong twining ability and can be grown hydroponically. When growing pothos, you only need to pay more attention to water and temperature; nothing else requires too much concern, as follows:
1. Light. The original growing conditions of pothos are tropical rainforests shaded by towering trees, so it does not need strong light. Only when temperatures in the north are too low, causing pothos photosynthesis to weaken, is increased light needed.
2. Temperature. Generally, when room temperature is above 10 degrees, pothos can safely overwinter, and indoors this temperature can usually be reached.
3. Watering. Pothos is generally watered by spraying to increase the humidity in the air. During the growing season, watering should keep the potting soil moist at all times, and the potting soil must not be allowed to dry out. In winter, reduce watering to avoid damaging the roots.
4. Fertilizing. Before the beginning of winter, mainly apply liquid inorganic fertilizer by watering or spraying, about once every 15 days. After the beginning of winter, fertilizing is mainly done by foliar spraying, with the fertilizer absorbed through the stomata on the leaves.
5. Pruning. Shaping and pruning are generally carried out in spring. When the stems and vines have covered the moss pole and exceeded it by about 20 cm, cut off 40 cm of the stem tips of 2-3 of the plants. After new buds and new leaves sprout following the cutback, then cut off the stem tips of the remaining plants.
The above are the relevant matters concerning growing and pruning pothos indoors. When growing pothos, also note that although pothos is easy to grow, try not to grow it in the bedroom, because old pothos branches rot very quickly and easily produce rot bacteria; at the same time, pothos grows luxuriantly and will consume a large amount of oxygen at night, which is exactly the time when the human body is resting.
