A Detailed Guide to Mustard Greens Cultivation Techniques and Management Key Points
Mustard greens are an edible vegetable and also a raw material for pickles, and they are grown in many places across the country, so what are the mustard greens cultivation techniques?
1. Mustard Greens Cultivation Techniques
Choose a suitable time and climate to plant mustard greens, and carry out land preparation and fertilization on the planting plot; after that, planting can begin. Mix the seeds with an appropriate amount of fine sand and broadcast them evenly in the field, then cover with a layer of fine soil or plant ash, then cover with grass material, and water thoroughly; the mustard greens will then germinate and grow. During the growth period, water and fertilizer management and pest and disease control must be done well.
The planting time for mustard greens is not exactly the same in every region. Generally, in the southern regions planting begins in July, while in the northern regions planting generally begins around October.
For pre-planting fertilization, generally 30 kg of imported compound fertilizer, 3-5 kg of urea, 25 kg of superphosphate and 10 kg of potassium chloride mixed with 50 kg of peanut bran are used as base fertilizer.
After planting out, water once each in the morning and evening for 2-3 days; depending on the weather conditions, irrigate once every 3-5 days thereafter.
For topdressing of mustard greens, nitrogen fertilizer is the main type, but at the seedling stage and in the main field period, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be appropriately increased to improve disease resistance and increase yield.
At the seedling stage, on the premise of sufficient base fertilizer, apply a light dressing of 10% decomposed human urine and spray with 40% dimethoate 1000-fold solution and 70% chlorothalonil 600-fold solution to control pests and diseases.
