How to Care for Phalaenopsis in Autumn? Care Methods and Precautions
Phalaenopsis, also known as the moth orchid and Taiwan phalaenopsis, is an epiphytic orchid native to tropical rainforest regions, mostly grown as a potted plant. So how do you care for it in autumn? Let's find out below.
How to care for Phalaenopsis in autumn?
1. Location
Autumn is different from summer: not only is there less sunlight, but the days are shorter too. If you still use two layers of shade netting, it will be too dark. Therefore, after the Mid-Autumn Festival, remove one layer so the shading rate drops to about 50-60%. When growing indoors, the curtains should also be reduced to one layer. Orchid plants originally grown indoors should preferably also be moved indoors in late October to early November.
2. Watering
Autumn is fairly dry, so water at intervals of 3-5 days, adjusting the interval according to how wet or dry the soil is. Do not use too much water each time, and you can mist the leaves appropriately.
3. Fertilizing
Use liquid fertilizer diluted 1000 times once a week until application stops at the end of October.
4. Pest and Disease Control
When caring for Phalaenopsis in autumn, you should also pay attention to controlling pests and diseases such as soft rot, brown spot, scale insects and red spider mites. In addition to spraying pesticides, you should also improve ventilation and keep the environment clean.
For autumn care of Phalaenopsis, just remember to water promptly to keep it moist, provide enough light and apply enough fertilizer, and that is about it.
