Detailed Explanation of Key Techniques for Growing Peppers in Summer
Pepper is a common vegetable and also a kind of seasoning, with effects such as dispelling dampness, stimulating the appetite, dispelling wind and inducing sweating, and killing insects, and there are many people who like eating peppers. So what are the techniques for growing peppers in summer?
1. Seed treatment
Select high-quality pepper seeds, expose the seeds to the sun, then disinfect them with trisodium phosphate solution, and soak them in clean water for about 8 hours. Remove them and let them dry slightly. Wrap the soaked seeds in cotton cloth, then cover with plastic film to keep them moist. They will sprout in about 60 to 70 hours, and sow when the sprouts are about 3 mm long.
2. Land preparation
Choose soil that is convenient for drainage and irrigation and that is fertile and loose for growing peppers. Before planting, first carry out deep plowing to a depth of 10-15 cm, and at the same time apply base fertilizer, using 5000 kg of barnyard manure and 15-20 kg of superphosphate applied in the field at the same time, and also open ditches so as to avoid water accumulation and make irrigation convenient.
3. Transplanting
After the seedlings emerge, carry out transplanting. Generally, choose a sunny morning to water the seedbed, and transplant in the afternoon. For early-maturing varieties, the row spacing is 40-50 cm and the plant spacing is 26-33 cm, leaving 1-2 plants per hole. For late-maturing varieties, the row spacing is 66-73 cm and the plant spacing is 50-60 cm, leaving 1 plant per hole.
4. Management
Before harvesting, water lightly, apply topdressing early, and combine with intertillage. Apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to promote robust growth of the seedlings and prevent flower drop, and at the same time remove the side branches on the main stem below the first flower. During the harvest period, harvest the first pepper early, water and earth up in time, and apply fertilizer. In the high-temperature season, water in the morning and evening to keep the soil moist, and at the same time apply a small amount of chemical fertilizer.
5. Pest and disease control
The pests and diseases of peppers include bacterial wilt, powdery mildew, and so on. For the control of bacterial wilt, choose disease-resistant varieties, and in the early stage of the disease spray the soil with 100-200 PPM agricultural streptomycin diluted with water, spraying continuously 3 times, and drenching the roots every 10-15 days for 2-3 times in a row. For the control of powdery mildew, choose varieties with good disease resistance, spray and disinfect with 800-fold diluted Xin Gao Zhi Mo before planting, and in the early stage of the disease spray with 1000-fold diluted Duoyangqing plus 3000-fold diluted DuPont Fuxing.
The planting and management of peppers is relatively simple, and peppers can also be grown in flower pots at home. If you are interested, you can grow some peppers as appropriate.
