Jujube contains abundant vitamin C and vitamin P. Besides being eaten fresh, it can often be made into candied and dried fruits such as candied jujube, red jujube, smoked jujube, black jujube, wine jujube and tooth jujube, and can also be processed into jujube paste, jujube flour, jujube wine and jujube vinegar as raw materials for the food industry. So, in which month do jujube trees bloom?

1. Orchard site selection

Choose an orchard site where the air, water source and soil are free from pollution, the terrain is flat and open, drainage conditions are good, the soil has strong permeability and good aeration, the groundwater level is relatively high, and the soil is fertile. When planting jujube trees in mountainous and hilly areas, choose sunny slopes with deep soil layers; shady slopes are not suitable for planting.

2. Planting varieties

At present, the excellent varieties used for drying include Jinsifeng, Jinsimi, Wuhehong, Wuhe No. 1, Wuhe No. 3 and Zanhuang Dazao. Among early-maturing varieties, the excellent varieties for fresh eating include Zaocuiwang, Jingwei Xianzao and Zaoshu Lizao, while the excellent varieties for processing include Lizao and Zanhuang Dazao. Late-maturing varieties are mainly used for fresh eating, and the high-quality varieties include Jingwei Daxuezao and Dongzao. New and special varieties include Mopanzao and Huliaozao with unusual fruit shapes, and Tailihong and Longxuzao with unusual tree shapes.

3. Cultivation mode

Jujube trees can be cultivated using dwarf high-density planting and intercropping modes. Among these, dwarf high-density planting is mainly suitable for varieties that bear fruit early and have small tree forms, with a plant spacing of 2 m × 3 m or 3 m × 2 m. Intercropping cultivation is mainly suitable for varieties with medium or larger tree forms that bear fruit relatively late, with a row spacing of 8-10 m and a plant spacing of 3-5 m. Other crops can be interplanted between the trees in the early stage.

4. Cultivation time

Jujube trees can be cultivated in spring and autumn. When cultivating, use 2-year-old and older root-sucker seedlings for planting. For spring planting, water thoroughly immediately, and the survival rate can easily reach more than 90%, while for autumn planting, even if watered after planting, the survival rate can hardly reach more than 90%. However, for autumn planting, even without watering after planting, the survival rate can still reach more than 70%, while for spring planting without watering, the survival rate is clearly lower than that of autumn planting.

5. Field management

(1) Fertilizer and water management: according to rainfall conditions, water once each in mid-May, early June and late June, so that the seedlings do not suffer drought even when the weather is dry. After passing the seedling recovery period in late July, apply 150 g of urea in a hole per plant. In addition, after the seedlings sprout and unfold leaves, spray foliar fertilizer with 0.4% urea plus 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate every 10-15 days.

(2) Pest and disease control: in late May and early to mid-June, spray once each with a 2000-fold solution of monocrotophos or a mixture of 50% clofentezine (Apollo) plus 50% methamidophos, which can effectively control pests such as red spider mites, mirid bugs and jujube leaf gall mites.

(3) Inspection and replanting: after the seedlings sprout and unfold leaves, investigate the survival of the seedlings. According to the situation of dead and missing plants, carry out replanting with soil balls in autumn or before sprouting the following year. In addition, in the same year the jujube seedlings are planted, a false death phenomenon of not sprouting sometimes occurs. The branches of falsely dead plants are soft, and the bark is green and glossy. For falsely dead seedlings, water and cultivate in time to promote sprouting and growth as soon as possible.

(4) Flower and fruit protection: during the flowering period of jujube trees, pinch off the growing tips and top the shoots to reduce nutrient consumption. In addition, during the flowering period, spray a 10-15 mg/kg gibberellin or Zaohuabao solution. Each time, 4-5 weeks before the fruit is fully ripe (the white-ripe stage), carefully spray 2-3 times with a 50 mg/kg naphthaleneacetic acid solution or a 10-20 mg/kg fruit-setting agent solution, spraying once every 10-15 days.

Jujube has high application value, and growing it can bring good returns. It is also not difficult to grow, so friends who want to invest in the planting industry may consider it.
