Nuts are a food relatively high in protein, oils, minerals and vitamins, and are very good for the human body, so what are nut cultivation techniques like?

Different types of nuts have different cultivation techniques, and the specific methods must be based on the type of nut. During cultivation, management is needed across many aspects such as soil, watering, fertilizing and light, and attention must also be paid to pest and disease control. There are many types of nuts; walnuts, Chinese chestnuts, peanuts and pine nuts all count as nuts.

Take the cultivation methods of several types of nuts as examples:

1. Walnut

Walnut trees like warmth and light, and have strict requirements for water. They are best planted in loose-textured sandy loam with good water retention and aeration, and need a sufficient water supply. For acidic soil, lime should be applied before planting. Pay attention to deep plowing of the soil or deep plowing of the tree basin, so as to help young trees bear fruit early and achieve high and stable yields. Regular applications of base fertilizer, topdressing and foliar fertilizer are also needed.

2. Chinese chestnut

Chinese chestnut has no strict requirements for soil; apart from extreme sandy soil and clay soil, it can grow in all of them, but gravelly soil weathered from granite, gneiss and the like, and sandy loam, are best.

Chestnut is a light-loving tree species. With sufficient light and dry, crisp air during the flowering period, flowering and fruit set are good. Therefore, chestnut trees are best planted on semi-sunny slopes, sunny slopes or open sections. In cultivation practice, to enhance light, the branches within the canopy should be appropriately thinned.

Although northern chestnuts are relatively drought-tolerant, they still have certain water requirements during the growing period. Supplying an appropriate amount of water during the growth of new shoots and fruits can improve shoot quality and fruit size; although southern chestnuts are relatively drought-tolerant, in rainy seasons or years attention must still be paid to drainage and waterlogging prevention.

3. Peanut

Peanuts have relatively high requirements for the soil. When choosing where to plant peanuts, it is best to choose fairly flat sandy loam with strong drainage capacity. Peanuts are sensitive to continuous cropping; soil used for peanuts in the first year is not suitable for planting peanuts continuously, and it is best to choose soil in which peanuts have not been grown for several years in a row.

Peanuts are relatively drought-tolerant plants, and in normal years generally do not need watering management, but if extremely dry weather occurs, especially when water is lacking during the pegging stage, peanuts must be irrigated scientifically and promptly.
