How to grow four-season gardenia? Growing methods and precautions
The scientific name of the four-season gardenia is sea gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides). It can bloom in all four seasons, the flowers are double-petaled, the flower color is crystal clear like jade, and the flowers are fragrant. Many people like to grow it. So,how do you grow four-season gardenia?
1. Soil
The four-season gardenia likes a slightly acidic environment. The planting soil should preferably be acidic soil that is loose, fertile, strong in water and fertilizer retention, and well-drained. It can be made by mixing 70% sandy red soil and 30% leaf mold, with a soil pH value between 4.0-6.5.
2. Temperature
The four-season gardenia likes a warm environment. The suitable temperature for growth is 20-25 degrees, and the temperature required for flowering is 26-28 degrees. When the summer temperature is too high, pay attention to cooling; when the winter temperature is too low, pay attention to keeping warm.
3. Light
The four-season gardenia likes light and is relatively shade-tolerant, but it should not be exposed to strong sunlight. In spring and autumn, it can be placed in sunlight for 8 hours; at noon in summer, the light is too strong, so appropriate shading is needed to avoid direct strong light; in winter, place it on a south-facing balcony where it can see sunlight.
4. Watering
The four-season gardenia likes a humid climate. During cultivation, it should be watered frequently, but water must not accumulate. In dry, high-temperature weather, in addition to watering more, also spray water around the plant; in winter, control watering.
5. Fertilizing
The four-season gardenia likes fertilizer. Since it blooms in all four seasons, the plant must be ensured sufficient nutrients. It can be fertilized once every half month. Organic fertilizers such as cake fertilizer or pig manure and urine can be applied. When fertilizing, it is best to dilute with more water to prevent burning the flowers; after flowering in winter, stop fertilizing.
6. Pests and diseases
The four-season gardenia is prone to scale insects, red spiders, and sooty mold when summer temperatures are high and ventilation is poor, so spray pesticides in time for prevention and control.
