Soybean sprouts are a nutritious and delicious vegetable. They are grown by sprouting soybeans and contain plenty of protein and vitamins. Today we bring you the growing methods and steps for soybean sprouts; if you are interested, you can grow soybean sprouts at home from soybeans.

1. Prepare the soybeans

Choose whole soybeans; damaged soybeans cannot sprout. Before sprouting them, rinse the soybeans first, and be careful not to rub them hard, or the outer skin of the soybeans can easily be damaged.

2. Soak the soybeans

Soak the soybeans in water overnight, and you will see that the skins have already split open from swelling. Take the soybeans out, find a container and place it in a warm, humid spot, put the soaked soybeans inside, then lay a layer of soft, damp cotton cloth on top. Be careful that this cotton cloth is not too thick, otherwise the sprouts will not be able to get ventilation and air exchange once they grow; finally, place a suitable heavy object on top of the cotton cloth.

3. Grow the sprouts

Put the sprouts in a spot on the balcony with diffused light, and do not let direct sunlight hit the container. Then, every day in the evening, remove the heavy object on top, take out the cotton cloth, wet it, and put it back, and the sprouts can be cultivated. After about four or five days, when you lift the cotton cloth, the soybean sprouts will be ready.

Soybean sprouts are a kind of sprouting vegetable, one type of vegetable, and in China they are one of the food-processing technological achievements in which the country leads the world. Sprouts already existed during the Warring States period, called “yellow rolls”, and it is said they were mainly used as medicine at that time.
