Black Bupleurum is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Bupleurum genus in the Apiaceae family. Its roots are dark brown and can be used medicinally to treat cold and fever. Today we introduce black Bupleurum cultivation technology.

1. Site selection and land preparation

Choose sandy soil; clay and low-lying areas prone to water accumulation are not suitable for planting. Before planting, apply base fertilizer in combination with land preparation. The base fertilizer should mainly be organic fertilizer, paired with an appropriate amount of phosphate fertilizer or compound fertilizer, spread evenly, then deep-plowed, finely prepared, and raked level, and mixed evenly with the soil. Make beds or ridges; the bed height is 15-30 cm and the width is 1-1.3 m.

2. Sowing and seedling raising

The sowing time is after the winter thaw or in spring. When sowing, water the bed surface thoroughly, open shallow furrows at a row spacing of 15-18 cm, spread the seeds evenly into the furrows, and cover with a layer of fine soil. Seedlings can emerge within two weeks after sowing.

3. Transplanting

When the seedlings grow to 7 cm, they can be transplanted to the field. When transplanting, pay attention to plant and row spacing. The row spacing is best at 15-20 cm, and the plant spacing is preferably between 7-10 cm. When lifting seedlings for transplanting, water once thoroughly, and after transplanting also water thoroughly to help the seedlings recover and improve the transplanting survival rate.

4. Field management

After the transplanted seedlings survive, begin weeding. After weeding, carry out intertillage, which can loosen the soil, increase soil permeability, and promote root growth and development. When the seedlings grow to 15-18 cm, apply topdressing once, mainly nitrogen fertilizer or urea. Before fertilizing, be sure to weed first, but do not damage the seedlings.

Black Bupleurum is distributed in Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan, Qinghai, Gansu, and Inner Mongolia, among other provinces and regions. It grows on mountain slopes, in valleys, and in shaded mountaintops at an altitude of 1400-3400 m.
