How to Grow Succulent Cacti? A Complete Guide to Care Methods and Tips
Cacti are succulent plants, and many people like to keep one pot beside their computer, as it is said they can protect against radiation. So, how do you grow succulent cacti? Here is an introduction.
1. Soil
Cacti like to grow in well-drained neutral to slightly alkaline sandy soil, with a soil pH between 7.0-7.5. You can mix 4 parts garden soil, 4 parts river sand, and 2 parts compost to make a nutrient-rich potting mix.
2. Temperature
Cacti like a warm environment and are afraid of the cold. The suitable temperature for growth is between 20-30 degrees. In winter, the temperature must not be lower than 5 degrees to avoid frost damage, and the temperature difference between day and night should not be too great.
3. Light
Cacti like sunlight, and only grow well and bloom well under strong light, so they should normally be exposed to plenty of sunlight. However, in midsummer they need shading to prevent strong direct sunlight from scorching the plant.
4. Watering
Cacti are drought-tolerant and afraid of waterlogging. Watering should be on the light side rather than excessive, keeping the soil half-moist. Do not water when the soil is not dry, and when you do water, water thoroughly. There must be no standing water in the pot. In spring and autumn, water once a week. In summer, water once every three days, preferably in the morning and evening, not at noon. In winter, watering once every half month is enough.
5. Fertilizing
Generally, fertilize during the vigorous growth season. Fertilizers can include decomposed soybean cake water, egg water, and so on. Fertilizing is usually done once every twenty days; if growth is fast, once every half month. It is best to fertilize in the early morning or evening, and the fertilizer concentration must not be too high.
