What are the new techniques for growing strawberries in the South? Understand in one article
Strawberries are a common fruit in daily life, tasting sweet and tart, and many people like to eat them. Because the market price is relatively high, it has attracted many people to grow them. Below is an introduction tothe new techniques for growing strawberries in the South.
1. Site selection
Strawberries are a crop with relatively high yield and economic benefit, and the planting plot requires convenient transportation and proximity to a water source. If transportation is inconvenient, it is difficult to sell them at a good price; if the water source is inconvenient, strawberries cannot be grown. The soil of the planting plot is required to be fertile, loose neutral or slightly acidic loam.
2. Making beds
Because there is a lot of rain in the South, high beds are generally made to facilitate drainage. For the specifications of the high bed, the total width of the bed surface and the bed furrow is generally 90 cm, of which the furrow width is 35 cm, the ridge width is 55 cm, and the bed height is 28 cm.
3. Planting
In the South, strawberries are generally planted from late September to mid-to-late October, and the survival rate is highest when planting is done after the maximum temperature drops below 32°C and the soil temperature drops to 15-17°C. Plant the strawberry seedlings in the ground, with 2 rows per bed, a row spacing of 22 cm, and a plant spacing of 16-18 cm. The principle for the soil is “deep enough not to bury the crown, shallow enough not to expose the roots,” and the curved side of the new stem should all face outward. Within 7 days after planting, water lightly continuously until the strawberry seedlings survive.
4. Temperature
Strawberries like a warm and cool climate. The suitable growth temperature is 15-22°C, the root growth temperature is 5-30°C, the suitable temperature for stem and leaf growth is 20-30°C, the temperature during flower bud differentiation must be kept at 5-15°C, and during the flowering and fruiting period it is 4-40°C. Buds suffer freeze damage at -15-10°C, and when the temperature is above 30°C and the sunshine is strong, shading measures need to be taken.
5. Light
Strawberries are light-loving plants. Under strong light, the plants are short and sturdy, the fruits are small, the color is deep, and the quality is good. Under moderate light, the fruits are large, the color is light, the sugar content is low, and the harvest period is longer. Too weak light is not conducive to strawberry growth. Therefore, strawberries should be given sufficient light.
6. Watering
Strawberry roots are shallowly distributed, have a large transpiration rate, and are not tolerant of waterlogging. During the growth period, the soil is required to have sufficient moisture, and attention should be paid to drainage during the rainy season. In early spring and the flowering period, the soil moisture content is less than 70%; during the fruit growth and ripening period, the soil moisture content reaches more than 80%; after the fruit is harvested, the soil moisture content is not lower than 70%; during the autumn period when the plants accumulate nutrients and flower buds form, the soil moisture content must not be lower than 60%.
7. Fertilizing
In addition to applying base fertilizer, timely topdressing is also needed. During the fruit expansion period and the harvest period, apply 10 kg per mu of strawberry special fertilizer or diammonium phosphate, and combined with watering, applying it as a 200-fold liquid fertilizer in furrows has a better effect.
8. Others
Frequently remove diseased leaves, withered and yellow leaves, and diseased fruits, frequently remove newly born stems, and frequently clear the furrows and level the soil so that water does not accumulate after rain. At harvest, for fruits that are half red (the side facing the sun) and half green, they can be turned over to promote even ripening.
