What are its planting techniques?
1. Is the Huangshan goldenrain tree an evergreen or a deciduous tree species?
The Huangshan goldenrain tree is a deciduous tree. Its leaves are papery or nearly leathery, hairless on both sides or with fine soft hairs on the midrib above, densely covered with short soft hairs beneath, and sometimes with serrations along one side near the top edge.
2. What are the planting techniques for the Huangshan goldenrain tree?
1. Propagation
The Huangshan goldenrain tree is mainly propagated by sowing, though suckering and root cuttings are also possible. Generally, the seeds are harvested when they mature in September-October, then dried in the sun to remove the membranous fruit husks and other debris to obtain pure seeds, and the seeds are then stored in sand until spring sowing the following year.
2. Sowing
Choose a dry site with good drainage and shelter from the wind and facing the sun, and dig a pit. Before planting, disinfect the seeds, soak them in warm water at 80°C, then mix them with wet sand to promote germination. After sprouting, they can be sown in drills, with a sowing depth of 2cm and a row spacing of 25cm, at a sowing rate of 4-5kg per mu, covered with 2-3cm of soil. When the seedlings reach 5-10 [cm] in height, after the leaves fall in autumn the seedlings can be dug up and heeled in in trenches, and divided and replanted in the following spring.
3. Planting
Before planting, prepare the planting soil and mix in humic acid fertilizer, decomposed organic fertilizer and saline-alkali soil improvement fertilizer. Then fill the planting soil into the tree hole and tamp it down to 45 cm from the ground, so that the cut roots will not come into direct contact with the fertilized soil and root rot is less likely. Then gently place the Huangshan goldenrain tree into the tree hole with its sunny side facing south, and then fill in the mixed soil and firm it down.
4. Water and fertilizer
After transplanting, the first settling water should be given promptly and should be watered generously and thoroughly; 7 to 10 days later, water a second time. Water a third time after about 20 days. After that, water as appropriate according to conditions. During the growing period, apply dilute manure water once or twice, so as to make the leaves green and the flowers abundant and enhance the plant's disease resistance.
5. Management
Management after planting the Huangshan goldenrain tree is relatively simple. The crown has a natural self-pruning ability, so it does not need much pruning and can be left to grow naturally. It is only necessary to cut off dead and diseased branches and dried fruit clusters after autumn. Pests include the large bagworm, the slug moth and longhorn beetles, etc., but they rarely occur.
