During the plant growing season, they will sprout and grow seedlings, which is also the period when animals lay eggs and reproduce. The roots of some trees are very prone to pests. So, what should you do when tree roots have pests?

1. Apply pesticide around the trunk

Take targeted measures and directly apply pesticide in the proper ratio onto the infested trunk. Some ordinary insects cannot withstand the smell of pesticide or insecticide, or after eating it, the insects will flee or die directly, achieving a pest-killing effect. Even if some cannot be killed, at least insects that have not yet entered will not bore holes in the trunk after smelling the pesticide, so the tree will not be harmed.

2. Pour pesticide into the insect holes

There is also a more effective method, which this editor often used before. Drill a hole in the infested trunk that connects with the insect hole, mix the pesticide (insecticide) at a stronger concentration, and then pour the prepared pesticide directly into the insect hole. With this method, very few insects will survive. The trunk is not harmed; as long as more fertilizer is applied, the trunk will soon grow back. If the pests are not controlled in time, the tree, or the infested trunk, will slowly turn yellow, wither, and dry out entirely.

3. Saw off the infested trunk

For a tree, some have only one main trunk doing the work, while a large portion have several large trunks. If your tree is a multi-trunk tree and insects have entered one of them, besides the above methods, or if the above methods are not good or you do not want to use chemicals, you can also directly cut or saw off that trunk. But after sawing it off, you must find the insects inside; otherwise they will crawl onto the other trunks and harm the other branches.

4. Apply lime to the trunk above the roots

In autumn and winter, apply lime slurry to the trunk above the roots. This is not only for aesthetics and marking purposes, but can also protect the tree from insect damage. In addition, this editor also suggests scattering lime on the soil around the tree. First, it can improve the soil's high acidity; second, it can prevent pests from laying eggs along the way, killing the insects while they are still eggs.

Pests on tree roots can be prevented. In normal times, you can prune shaded branches and regularly spray some preventive chemicals, which can kill some insect eggs attached to the surface of the trunk and prevent the insects from reproducing.
