Bletilla striata is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant in the orchid family, mainly distributed in East China, Central South China, Southwest China, as well as Gansu and Shaanxi in our country. Among them, Guizhou has the largest output and the best quality. Due to the large market demand, Bletilla striata is also cultivated artificially, so how do artificially cultivated Bletilla striata prevent and control diseases?

I. Main Diseases of Bletilla striata

The main diseases of Bletilla striata are root rot, leaf spot and soft rot, which mostly occur in the rainy season. When they occur, the pathogens damage the leaves and roots, causing the plants to wither and die. The pathogens overwinter as mycelium or acervuli in dead branches or soil. In mid-to-late May of the following year, infection and disease onset begin, and July to September is the peak period of the disease. Conidia spread through wind, rain or insects, expanding and causing secondary infection.

Common pests include white grubs, wireworms, mole crickets and cutworms. These insects generally feed on the young roots and underground parts of stems of crops, often biting or breaking the roots, causing dead seedlings, missing seedlings or tuber rot.

II. Treatment Methods

Among the diseases, root rot mainly relies on prevention. Before planting, use organic fertilizer and Aonongle to condition the soil. Throughout the entire growth process, Dilirwang can be applied as a drench 2-3 times, which can activate the soil, fix nitrogen and carbon, and prevent and control various crop diseases through antagonism, occupation, and opening crop secondary metabolism pathways. For leaf spot and soft rot, use Qingkulike/Sujing + garlic oil + Wofengsu for 2 consecutive sprays, with a 3-day interval each time, and for the 3rd spray use Qingkulike + Dilirwang. At the same time, pay attention to timely ditching and drainage to reduce field humidity.

When pest damage occurs, in areas with severe white grub and wireworm occurrence, seed dressing and seed should be the main methods; in areas with severe mole cricket occurrence, poisoned bait should be the main method; in areas with severe cutworm occurrence, a combination of deep plowing to destroy eggs, weeding to kill insects, and chemical control should be used. At the same time, 90% trichlorfon 1000x solution or 75% phoxim 1000-1500x solution can be used for root drenching.

The above are some related measures for the prevention and control of Bletilla striata pests and diseases. We hope all friends who grow Bletilla striata can have a good harvest.
