Bauhinia, also known as Lingjia flower, is a common plant in landscaping. Its bark, flowers, and roots can all be used medicinally, and can treat burns, pustules, coughs, and so on. So is Bauhinia evergreen or deciduous?

1. Is Bauhinia evergreen or deciduous?

Bauhinia is an evergreen tree. It is an excellent landscaping tree species in South China, with a tree height of 7-10 m and thick bark that is gray to dark brown with some obvious pores. The branches are round, and the young seedlings have a little soft hair. It usually blooms from September to November and bears fruit from February to March.

2. What is the difference between Bauhinia and Hong Kong orchid tree?

1. Leaf differences

The leaves of the Hong Kong orchid tree are leathery, nearly round or broadly heart-shaped, about 8.5 to 13 cm long and 9 to 14 cm wide, with a heart-shaped base, sometimes nearly truncate. The leaf tip has 2 lobes, about 1/3 or 1/4 of the total leaf length. The lobe tips are blunt or narrowly rounded. The upper surface of the leaf is hairless, while the lower surface has sparse short soft hair. There are 11 to 13 veins, and the petiole is 3.5 to 4 cm long.

The leaves of Bauhinia are simple leaves with entire margins. The tip is concave or split into 2 lobes, and sometimes the deep split of the leaf can reach the base and form two separate leaflets.

2. Flower differences

The Hong Kong orchid tree has terminal or axillary racemes, sometimes compound into paniculate inflorescences, with short soft hair. The bracts and bracteoles are triangular, about 3 mm long. The flower buds are spindle-shaped, the calyx is spathe-like, about 2.5 cm long, and the petals are purplish red, with short stalks, and are oblanceolate.

The flowers of Bauhinia are racemes, corymbs, or panicles. The calyx is cup-shaped, spathe-like, or splits into 5 sepals when flowering. There are 5 petals with clawed bases.
