How to Propagate the Succulent Mountain Rose? A Detailed Method Guide
The succulent Mountain Rose is a succulent plant whose appearance resembles a rose. It is very beautiful and much loved by flower enthusiasts. Its price is a bit higher than other succulents, but that cannot stop people's love for it and their cultivation of it. So how do you propagate the succulent Mountain Rose?
1. Division propagation
(1) Division time: late spring and autumn. This is the growth period of the Mountain Rose and the best time to cut off side branches for division.
(2) Choosing side branches: choose a side branch beside a main branch, slowly loosen the soil with your hands, dig the side branch out of the soil, and use a small knife to cut the part connecting it to the root of the main branch.
(3) Planting the side plant: place the cut-off side branch in a cool environment to dry in the shade, and apply a little multi-purpose fungicide to the cut for disinfection. Then plant it in a new pot, water it with a little water, place it in a cool environment, and wait for it to slowly take root and sprout.
2. Beheading propagation
(1) Beheading time: autumn. At this time, even if the entire flower head of the Mountain Rose is cut off, the plant itself can still recover and grow as quickly as possible.
(2) Beheading method: beheading the Mountain Rose requires auxiliary tools; dental floss or fishing line will both work. Pass the dental floss through the leaves that the Mountain Rose has packed together, and pull hard at the point where the “rose flower” base of the plant connects to the branch sprout to cut off the flower head.
(3) Planting the beheaded head: place the cut-off Mountain Rose in a cool, ventilated environment to dry in the shade the cut made by the dental floss. Before planting, it is best to apply a little rooting powder. Then it can be planted in new potting soil, watered with a small amount of water, and placed in a cool environment to quietly wait for it to take root and sprout.
3. Seed propagation
(1) Seed selection: the seeds are produced after flowering, and then the Mountain Rose that has bloomed will slowly die. The seeds are best stored refrigerated, then taken out for planting in autumn.
(2) Sowing method: place the seeds on new potting soil. There is no need to dig a hole, and there is no need to cover the seeds with soil; simply place them directly on the moist soil. Soak the flower pot in water, place it in a warm environment with diffused light, do not water, and after waiting 5-10 days you will find that they have already sprouted. Finally, just plant them in the potting soil.
4. Propagation precautions:
(1) Keep the environment clean
When propagating the Mountain Rose, be sure to pay attention: the environment should be clean and pollution-free, and it should be kept in a ventilated environment without direct sunlight. Never place it in a damp, stuffy, and hot environment, as this will cause the plant to die and become diseased.
(2) Water less
The Mountain Rose is a succulent plant, and it inherently does not need too much water. During propagation, it only needs to be given water to settle the roots, just enough to slightly moisten the soil, and then there is no need to water it again. After propagation, the plant is very fragile. Not only does it not need water, it also should not be exposed to direct sunlight. After it has grown roots, slowly move it into the sunlight and increase the amount of watering.
