Celery diseases include early blight, leaf spot, sclerotinia rot, viral disease, soft rot and black spot, etc., and the main pest is aphids. Its control techniques include: agricultural control, physical control and biological control. What is commonly called "honey bug" is the aphid. So today let's learn together with the editor about what to do when aphids appear on celery.

1. Chemical control

When aphids grow on celery, they suck the sap, causing the leaves to curl, growth to slow down, and even stop growing. Once discovered, spray pesticide as soon as possible for treatment. Imidacloprid, malathion, pirimicarb, fenvalerate and derris extract are all fine; note that pesticide use must stop one week before harvest. In addition, attention should be paid to agricultural control. Based on the habits of aphids, they can be wiped out when they lay eggs. When planting, they must not be intercropped or planted adjacent to other host plants.

2. Agricultural control

Collect seeds from disease-free plants, and choose sterile seeds with good resistance to pests and diseases. Soak the seeds in constant-temperature water at 55°C for 15 minutes. In heavily diseased land, carry out a 2 to 3 year crop rotation. In the early stage of disease, remove the diseased lower old leaves that have lost their function, take them out of the field and bury them deep. Avoid flooding irrigation; for open-field cultivation, drain promptly after rain to control field humidity. Apply sufficient base fertilizer. Sow in staggered batches and cultivate strong seedlings. Strengthen water management to promote root development and vigorous plant growth, so as to improve the plant's disease resistance. If raising seedlings in the high-temperature season, provide shade to lower the temperature.

3. Biological control

Use plant-derived pesticides; for example, for aphids it is advisable to use matrine or rotenone emulsifiable concentrate. Spray the filtrate from soaked plant ash on the leaves to control aphids. Use biogas slurry or compost extract to control aphids.
