What are the precautions for planting saplings? Explained clearly in one article
Planting with saplings is the most common way of planting trees in most gardens, roadside rows and other tree planting settings offline, but what precautions should be taken when planting saplings?
What are the precautions for planting saplings?
1. Land preparation and fertilization
Before planting trees, plow and dig holes in the area to be planted, then apply fertilizer. Among these, farmyard organic fertilizer must be piled and composted through high-temperature fermentation and fully decomposed before it can be used as seed fertilizer.
2. Planting time
Tree planting has its own particularities, with late autumn and early spring being best. Seize the period of continuous overcast and rainy weather to carry it out. Late autumn refers to the period after leaf fall and before the soil freezes; planting can also be done then, or combined with other measures to reduce moisture loss. Areas with relatively warm winters and locally cold-tolerant tree species are suitable for autumn planting, while areas with cold winters and locally non-cold-tolerant tree species are suitable for spring planting; this will reduce the survival rate of planting to some extent. Tree species with very strong local cold resistance can also be planted in winter.
3. Tree pit depth
Determine the depth and size of the pit according to the condition of the sapling. If the pit is shallow and small, make it larger and deeper, and place loose soil at the bottom of the pit, shaping it into a conical mound, so that the roots can spread out in all directions along the conical mound, ensuring the roots extend smoothly around and preventing root balling.
4. Sapling planting
Making the original soil mark level with or slightly below the ground level should be given special attention in general planting. Trees must not be lower than the original soil mark by 10cm; the requirement for general shrubs and thicket plants is to be level with the original soil mark; tree species with soil balls must not be lower than 5cm. The depth of planting seedlings is not absolute; it is determined after comprehensively considering factors such as seedling species, soil texture, groundwater level, terrain and topography.
5. Post-planting management
After planting, saplings should be reinforced and watered according to the situation. Generally, tall seedlings should be supported. In addition, some saplings should be provided with shade sheds after planting, with straw rope or hemp pieces wrapped around the trunk, and where conditions permit, local spraying can be done to reduce water evaporation from the tree body.
In addition, it is best to do pruning work in advance before planting saplings, and special attention should also be paid to moisture retention and ventilation during packaging and transport to ensure the survival of the saplings.
