Watermelon is a common fruit, cultivated all over China with a great many varieties. Every summer you can see round, green watermelons in the fields. When growing them, what pesticide should be used for pest control on watermelons?

1. What pesticide to use for pest control on watermelons

Watermelon pests include aphids, thrips, red spider mites, leafminers, fruit flies, tobacco cutworms and others. Different pests can be controlled with different pesticides. For example, watermelon aphids can be controlled with acephate, omethoate, imidacloprid and so on. Green caterpillars can be killed by spraying with Andar EC, Aolü No. 1 and other pesticides. Thrips can be killed by spraying with matrine aqueous solution, thiacloprid, acetamiprid and so on.

2. How to choose a watermelon

1. Shape,

The circle at the bottom of the watermelon, the smaller the better; conversely, the larger the circle at the bottom, the thicker the rind and the less tasty it is.

2. Color

It is best to pick a dark green one, as only then will the flesh be bright red and taste sweet and delicious. It is advisable not to choose a watermelon whose rind is a misty white, as such a watermelon is not yet ripe.

4. Stripes,

Neat stripes on a watermelon indicate that it has developed well and is already ripe, making it a good melon worth buying. If the stripes are not neat, the watermelon may not be sweet enough.

5. The stem end

This is the so-called stem end. If it is a straight line, do not take it, but if it is curved and curled, it is very sweet.

6. One look, two touches, three knocks

One look means looking at the color of the watermelon rind. A ripe melon has deep stripes and a rind that is green and translucent. Two touches means choosing one that feels smooth and round to the touch; do not choose one with a rough feel. Three knocks means tapping it on top; if there is an obvious vibrating sensation in your hand, it means the flesh is vibrating and the watermelon is already ripe.

Watermelon is a summer fruit; its flesh is sweet and can cool you down and relieve summer heat; its seeds contain oil and can be eaten as a snack; its rind is used medicinally and has the effects of clearing heat, promoting urination and lowering blood pressure.
