Coleus is a foliage plant that can produce brightly colored flowers, very suitable for accenting all kinds of garden landscapes, and many people also like to keep a few pots at home, so how does coleus get through winter?

1. Temperature requirements

Compared with other cold-fearing plants, coleus has quite strong adaptability and is distributed in many places in our country. However, its suitable growing temperature is 15 to 25 °C, and when the temperature drops to about 5 °C you need to pay attention and absolutely must not leave it outside.

2. Light requirements

At the thought of coleus's brilliant colors, we can also guess that it must love being shone on by sunlight. Otherwise, how would it show off its vivid colors? In winter, it is best to place it indoors in a spot that receives plenty of sunlight. If there is no such place to put it, you should also regularly take it out to get some sun. Not only is this about light, it is also a good way to supply heat. Otherwise, could you bear to see its beautiful colors gradually fade? Of course, there is one more thing to note: coleus is also not suited to direct sunlight, and too strong light is not good either. In short, soft light is good.

3. Fertilizer requirements

Like other plants, coleus needs very few nutrients in winter. If you want to apply fertilizer, you can choose one containing more phosphorus, which can effectively maintain the brightness of the leaves. Do not overuse fertilizer containing a lot of nitrogen, because it will cause the leaves to darken.

4. Water requirements

Coleus likes a somewhat moist environment. Even though its water needs are relatively reduced in winter, its soil should not be allowed to become too dry. Of course, you can also sprinkle some water on its leaves, which can both add moisture and make its leaves look more attractive.

5. Soil requirements

This plant does not have too strict requirements for soil, though soil containing more nutrients is of course better.

6. Pest and disease control

The number one pest of coleus is aphids. Being small, aphids hide on the leaves and suck the leaf sap, causing the leaves to curl and wither. When caring for it in winter, you must not be careless either; regularly check whether pests have invaded, and as soon as they are found, spray to kill them immediately, so that the plant can be kept growing healthily.
