Dahong Juanjuan, also known as Dachijuan Juanjuan and Sempervivum arachnoideum (Cobweb Houseleek). Dahong Juanjuan is a classic species of the genus Sempervivum and also a representative of European alpine succulents. So how do you propagate Dahong Juanjuan?

1. How to propagate Dahong Juanjuan?

Juanjuan can be propagated by cuttings: cut relatively robust offsets from the mother plant, prepare the rooting medium, then insert them into it, and they will take root in about half a month. Alternatively, use the sowing method: likewise prepare the soil, sow the seeds into it, cover them with a thin layer of soil, and they will sprout before long.

2. Growing habits

Juanjuan, like Sempervivum tectorum (Common Houseleek), comes from the alpine regions of Europe, but its leaves are smaller than those of Sempervivum tectorum and more tightly arranged. The leaf tips bear white fuzz, and it readily forms clusters. In summer it is generally green, while in autumn and winter, when sunlight is abundant but the temperature is chilly, the whole plant gradually turns purplish-red, beautiful and elegant. It likes a dry, well-ventilated and sunny environment, and tolerates drought, cold and high temperatures. In summer, when temperatures are high, it briefly goes dormant; during dormancy the potting soil should be kept dry and the plant placed in a ventilated, shady spot, avoiding direct midday sunlight. In winter, keeping the ambient temperature above 0°C and the potting soil dry is enough for it to overwinter safely. Propagation is mainly by division and cuttings, with an extremely high success rate.
