Corn is prone to diseases during its growth process, which can easily affect the growth of corn. So how do you treat corn diseases?

Corn diseases include northern corn leaf blight, corn rust, corn round spot disease, and others. Different diseases have different prevention and control methods. For example, northern corn leaf blight can be controlled with carbendazim, thiram solution, thiophanate-methyl solution, and other agents.

1. Northern Corn Leaf Blight

Northern corn leaf blight is a disease that damages corn leaves. Specifically, it initially infects the lower leaves of the plant, then spreads from the bottom upward, until all the leaves turn brown, after which mold begins to grow on the surface, and finally the leaves die.

Prevention and control methods: When first planting corn, it is best to choose disease-resistant varieties, then plant at the appropriate planting density. During the corn's growth period, some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and organic fertilizers should also be applied. If the corn develops northern leaf blight, chemical agents can also be used for treatment. Carbendazim, thiram solution, thiophanate-methyl solution, and other agents can all treat northern corn leaf blight.

2. Corn Rust

The main symptoms of corn rust are: in the early stage, pale yellow elongated and oval brown small pustules grow on both sides of the leaves. Then, after the pustules rupture, rust-colored powdery material appears. In the later stage, black oval or elongated raised spots appear on the leaf surface of the corn. After they crack open, dark brown winter spores are exposed.

Prevention and control methods: Choose rust-resistant varieties for planting. During the corn's growth period, carry out field management such as weeding, watering, and fertilizing. In severely affected areas, spraying can begin at the early stage of the disease, generally spraying 2 to 3 times at intervals of about 8 days.

3. Corn Round Spot Disease

Corn round spot disease is a disease that harms corn ears. Specifically, it causes the ear to rot, and the lesions gradually spread and multiply. The symptoms on the ear are the most severe, sometimes causing the ear to die.

Prevention and control methods: Spray more medication, and fenaminosulf can also be used for control. The main spraying area is the ear, because the ear is the part most affected by the disease.
