Is the Chinese tallow tree evergreen or deciduous? Read this one article to find out
The Chinese tallow tree, also known as the wax tree and the wood tree, is a tree species with strong adaptability and strong resistance to toxic hydrogen fluoride gas. It is currently mostly planted in plazas, parks, courtyards, and forest parks. So is the Chinese tallow tree evergreen or deciduous?
1. Is the Chinese tallow tree evergreen or deciduous?
The Chinese tallow tree is a deciduous tree plant in the Euphorbiaceae family and the genus Triadica. It generally sheds its leaves in winter, and in spring and autumn it grows brilliantly red leaves that are in no way inferior to maple leaves. It is currently widely planted beside houses, beside villages, along both sides of roads, or in parks.
2. What are the high-yield cultivation techniques for the Chinese tallow tree?
1. Collecting seeds
Select trees that are more than 18 years old, growing normally, with straight trunks, free of pests and diseases, and with a high fruiting rate as mother trees. Then collect seeds around November each year. When about 75% of the fruits have split open is the best time for seed collection. If collected too early, it is difficult to extract the seeds; if collected too late, the seeds will be eaten by birds. After collecting the seeds, keep healthy, plump seeds, then remove impurities, shriveled seeds, and other useless seeds. Store them in a dry place.
2. Sowing at the right time
(1) Treating the seeds: Put the seeds into a container, add laundry detergent to warm water at about 55 degrees, and soak for 1 day. Then, once the wax has softened, rub off the wax, wash clean, and then soak in potassium permanganate for about two hours for disinfection.
(2) Sowing: When sowing, pay attention to sowing density and dig the planting holes properly. It is generally done in spring and autumn. Put the seeds evenly into the holes. After sowing, cover with about 2 cm of fine soil, then water thoroughly, and do a good job of sowing management.
3. Seedling management
If sown in spring, they will generally emerge in about two months. During the seedling growth period, pay attention to doing a good job of cultivating and weeding, no fewer than 3 times each year. When the seedlings grow to about 12 cm, carry out thinning to ensure healthy seedling growth. Keep the robustly growing seedlings; conversely, remove weak and dead seedlings and replace them with healthy seedlings of the same growth. At the same time, also pay attention to topdressing and pest and disease control to promote the healthy growth of young Chinese tallow trees. Under careful management, young trees can grow about 80 cm tall in the same year, and can be transplanted and planted out after leaf fall in autumn.
4. Transplanting and planting out
(1) When transplanting, it must be done with a soil ball, and the diameter of the soil ball should be kept at about 38 cm. Before transplanting, dig the planting holes well and remove debris such as crushed stone and slag from the planting holes.
(2) Apply sufficient base fertilizer. The base fertilizer should mainly be fully decomposed farmyard manure, then cover the base fertilizer with a layer of soil before planting out.
(3) The planting depth should be such that the soil surface is about 8 cm from the seedling roots. After planting, set up support frames, water thoroughly, and water again about three days after planting out.
(4) Control the watering frequency and amount according to weather changes and soil moisture content. The Chinese tallow tree has relatively large water and fertilizer requirements, so when planting, ensure that its nutrient and water needs are met.
