Surely many people have a question in their hearts: “Why do bananas have no seeds, and what is their method of reproduction?” In fact, the earliest and most primitive bananas did have seeds. The original wild bananas contained hard seeds one after another, making them extremely inconvenient to eat. Through long-term cultivation and selection, the wild banana underwent mutation, and the fruit no longer contained seeds. So how do bananas reproduce? Let us take a look together.

I. How Banana Trees Reproduce

Bananas are large perennial herbaceous fruit trees. Each banana plant can only flower and bear fruit once, and after fruiting the aboveground part withers and dies. Suckers sprout from the underground stem of the mother plant, grow into new plants, and replace the mother plant in continuing to bear fruit and serving as propagation material. The mother plant's underground stem can also be used for cut-block propagation and tissue culture propagation.

II. How to Plant Banana Trees

Cut the underground stem block of the banana off with a tool, cut the stem block into small pieces, and after cutting, smear the cut surfaces with plant ash. Plant the stem pieces with the bud eyes facing upward, then cover them well with soil and water them thoroughly. The spacing when planting should be kept at 15 to 18 cm. After planting, cover with rice straw, and when the seedlings grow to 40 to 60 cm, they can be transplanted and established.
