The camphor tree is a fairly common species in our daily life, planted along many roads to purify the air and add to the city's beauty. So, is the camphor tree evergreen or deciduous? Let's take a look!

1. Is the camphor tree evergreen or deciduous?

The camphor tree is an evergreen broadleaf tree species. It thrives in areas with an annual average temperature above 16-17°C and an absolute minimum temperature above -7°C.

2. Pest control for the camphor tree

(1) Camphor leaf wasp. It produces 1-2 generations a year, with the 1st and 2nd larval stages in early May and early June respectively, feeding on tender leaves. Control method: spray 90% crystalline trichlorfon or 50% malathion emulsion at 2000 times dilution, or use 0.5kg of yellow azalea or Tripterygium wilfordii powder mixed with 75-100kg of water for spraying.

(2) Camphor longhorn beetle. It mainly damages the main branches and side branches. Use manual capture, or plug the excretion holes with dichlorvos.

(3) Camphor shoot leaf roller. It produces several generations a year, and the larvae bore into and feed on tender shoots. Control method: after the camphor tree sprouts new shoots in March, when the 1st generation larvae hatch, spray 50% dibrom emulsion or 50% malathion emulsion at 1000 times dilution, once every 5d, for 2-3 consecutive times. You can also use 40% dimethoate at 200-300 times dilution to spray and kill the larvae; when the larvae are pupating in large numbers, in nurseries or small woodland areas you can collect dead branches and fallen leaves in winter and burn them, and combine tending with weeding and earthing up in the woodland to kill the pupae.

(4) Camphor nest moth. It produces 2 generations a year, with the 1st generation larval stage from the end of May to mid-July. The larvae feed on leaf buds on new shoots and spin silk to wrap around the terminal buds, causing the new shoots to die and even the whole plant to die. Control method: before the 2nd generation larvae have formed their web nests, spray 90% crystalline trichlorfon at 4000-5000 times dilution; if web nests have already formed, they can be removed by hand and burned.
