Hibiscus is also known as hibiscus, rose of Sharon, and hibiscus, among other names. Its flowering period is long, lasting almost all year round, with large, brightly colored blooms and abundant flowers. So how does hibiscus overwinter?

1. Fertilize in moderation

Potted hibiscus prefers loose, fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic soil, but winter temperatures are low, so the plant's demand for fertilizer decreases accordingly. Therefore, fertilizer application should be controlled starting from October.

2. Control watering

In winter, the potting soil for hibiscus should be on the dry side, so watering should be controlled, and the soil should be kept only slightly moist. Under normal conditions, water about once every 5 days to avoid root rot. Methods such as spraying and washing the branches and leaves or covering with plastic film can be used to increase the air humidity around the plant, creating suitable humidity conditions for its growth.

3. Prune properly

Pruning promotes the reasonable distribution of the plant's nutrients. Generally, leave about 10 cm of each branch and cut back the rest of the branch. After new growth sprouts, select and keep 2 side branches on each branch, and cut off the remaining small branches.

4. Prevent and control pests and diseases

When hibiscus is grown indoors in winter, if indoor ventilation is poor and light is insufficient, pest problems are very likely. Indoor ventilation and lighting conditions should be maintained, combined with effective chemical control.

Hibiscus is a famous flower in China and is very commonly cultivated in South China. It is easy to grow. Besides being widely used in landscaping in subtropical regions, in the Yangtze River basin and areas to its north it is an important greenhouse and indoor flower. It can also be used medicinally.
