Grasshoppers, also known as locusts, are a common insect in the field. They like to eat the stems of plants and harm the growth of crops. Farmers get headaches when they see them. So what pesticide is used to control grasshoppers?

1. What pesticide is used to control grasshoppers?

Grasshoppers can be controlled with pesticides such as dichlorvos, malathion, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, Metarhizium anisopliae, and azadirachtin. Generally, for grasshoppers at the 3rd instar or older, 75% malathion emulsifiable concentrate can be used for ultra-low-volume or low-volume spraying, or 45% malathion emulsifiable concentrate can be used for ground ultra-low-volume spraying, using 75-100 grams per mu. These pesticides are slightly toxic and cause some pollution to the environment, so pest control work should be done well when growing crops.

2. How are grasshoppers controlled?

1. Agricultural control

(1) Build water conservancy projects to ensure no disaster from drought or flooding.

(2) Carry out large-scale reclamation and planting of barren beaches to change the habitat environment of locusts and reduce the area of outbreak bases.

(3) Plant trees and forests to change the microclimate of locust areas and reduce suitable sites for migratory locusts to lay eggs and reproduce.

(4) Improve farming and cultivation techniques to achieve the effect of controlling locust eggs, adjust measures to local conditions, and change the crop layout——reduce locust damage.

2. Biological control

(1) In locust disaster areas, use efficient and low-toxicity agricultural and biological pesticides to protect predatory natural enemies in locust areas.

(2) Apply locust microsporidia over a large area.

3. Chemical control

For large-area chemical control of locust nymphs, it should be grasped before the locusts reach the 3rd instar. Use 75% malathion emulsifiable concentrate for ultra-low-volume or low-volume spraying. For aerial control, use 60-70 grams per mu; for ground spraying, use 75 grams per mu, or use 45% malathion emulsifiable concentrate for ground ultra-low-volume spraying, using 75-100 grams per mu, or 20% dimethoate-malathion mixture, using 100 grams per mu, or 1.5% lindane powder, using 1.5-2 kilograms per mu for dusting.
